Very good day to the whole community, today I show you my view of the Icebreaker Admiral Irizar, flagship of the Antarctic Naval Force.
Muy buen día a toda la comunidad, hoy les muestro mi vista al Rompehielos Almirante Irizar, buque insignia de la Fuerza Naval Antártica.
First a little history about this ship: it was built in Finland in 1977 and arrived in Argentina in 1978. Since then he participates every year in the Supply of the Antarctic bases of Argentina and other countries.
It participated in the Falklands War in 1982 as a hospital ship. In 2002, it was sent on a difficult rescue mission of the German polar transport ship Magdalena Oldendorff, which was serving the Russian base of Novolazarevskaya and, at a temperature close to -50ºC, was trapped in the Antarctic winter without being able to leave the frozen sea. The icebreaker, advancing over the 330 km of ice, supplied the ship with medicine, fuel and food.
Normally, between mid-spring and autumn, the ship participates in the Antarctic Campaigns, using the Ushuaia Naval Base (BNUS) as its own replenishment point, goes to the bases that the Armed Forces of Argentina have in the white continent, replenishes them, collects the waste it produces and transfers the replacement personnel in them.
It measures 121 m in length, 25 m in beam, weighs 14140 tons and has 12 covers.

Primero un poco de historia sobre este buque: fue construido en Finlandia en el año 1977 y llegó a Argentina en 1978. Desde entonces participa todos los años en el Abastecimiento de Las bases antárticas Argentinas y de otros países.
Participó en la Guerra de Malvinas, en 1982 como buque hospital. En 2002, fue enviado a una dificultosa misión de rescate del buque de transporte polar alemán Magdalena Oldendorff, que se encontraba sirviendo a la base rusa de Novolazarevskaya y, a una temperatura cercana a los -50ºC, quedó atrapado en el invierno antártico sin poder salir del mar congelado. El rompehielos, avanzando sobre los 330 km de hielo, aprovisionó al buque con medicinas, combustibles y alimentos.
Normalmente, entre mediados de la primavera y el otoño, el buque participa de las Campañas Antárticas, utilizando la Base Naval Ushuaia (BNUS) como punto de reaprovisionamiento propio, se dirige a las bases que las Fuerzas Armadas de Argentina poseen en el continente blanco, las reaprovisiona, recoge los residuos que produce y traslada al personal de recambio en las mismas.
Mide 121 m de eslora, 25 m de manga, pesa 14140 toneladas y cuenta con 12 cubiertas.

Obviously it is not open to the public, but my husband is a friend of a lieutenant colonel and when he was in the port of Buenos Aires, he did us the favor of inviting us to meet him.
I can't explain to you the feeling of standing in front of that immensity and on top of it floating in the water! It's amazing, a city on the water!
Like any military ship, everything is very clean, very neat.... Impeccable.
Our friend told us about the annual missions they do in Antarctica, the amount of time they can be at sea without contact with land (they are prepared for 60 days of autonomy) and all the logistics involved in maintaining a crew of 300 passengers. It really is a world apart.
Obviamente no está abierto al público, pero mi esposo es amigo de un teniente coronel y cuando estuvo en el puerto de Buenos Aires, nos hizo el favor de invitarnos a conocerlo.
¡No les puedo explicar la sensación de estar parados delante de esa inmensidad y encima que flote en el agua! Es increíble, ¡una ciudad sobre el agua!
Como todo buque militar, todo está limpísimo, prolijísimo…. Impecable.
Nuestro amigo nos contó sobre las misiones anuales que hacen en la Antártida, la cantidad de tiempo que pueden estar en el mar sin contacto con tierra (están preparados para 60 días de autonomía) y toda la logística que implica mantener una tripulación de 300 pasajeros. Realmente es un mundo aparte.
