RE: Oh yes, I made it.

Sorry for only replying now (as you saw on whatsapp as well). What a week. I am tired as hell.

Yes, that is most important. That personal connection. It is just sad that lots of students do not want this at the tertiary level. Or, the students are too entitled to want it. Plus, from what I have seen this far, only a handful really seem interested in your own work. I put way too much effort into things and I am so tired now that I do not see how this way of doing things is sustainable in the long run hahah.

You should go and scratch in your garden, or go into nature, as that always helps me with tiredness.

Strange things that the academic route can create in students, as it removes all humbleness and replaces it with pride and ego. It is so amazing how academic achievements can change a person.

Once you get into that space, people are less humble because they build these facades of importance around themselves. In my case, it made me aware of how little I actually know and how much I still want to do. I want to do another Ph.D. to actually build my knowledge base, but the people in academia are drunk on their own egos.

Sad and so true and I have had some clashes with a few over the years. But then again, I have a friend who is one of five registered scientists in the country for many years, and he is the most down to earth guy that you will ever meet. So, as in everything, there is both the good and the bad.
I think that you will become one of the good.

Thank you so much! I never really like when people act like that but it is part of the world we live in hey? Some people's self worth is so low they need those self-praise to keep afloat.

Yeah and others are spoiled brats that think they rule the world. The main factor is of course "entitlement".

I had a discussion with a student yesterday who unfortunately suffers from this sickness we call "entitlement". The student had the audacity to tell me that they deserve more marks because they did do the essay and did understand the work; almost as if I wasn't needed in this relationship and that they could give themselves the marks.

Oy Vay, you will get many more like that and some even try to justify their plagiarism. The only way that works here is to get them to sign written reprimands.
Another problem that is now emerging is that the non performers are ganging up against the tutors and this can only be bad for the future.
