Beautiful And Sublime Sunday: Delicious Dinner With My Long Lost Cousin

First of all, I hope that this Sunday finds you happy and in the best of health.

Sometimes life is so busy that we lose contact with our friends and family members. This is what happened to me and my cousin Roziah. Both of us hail from the same hometown Tebakang. She got married and moved to Peninsular Malaysia. We lost touch but through the wonders of Facebook managed to reconnect. I found out from Facebook that she was going back home for the Chinese New Year and so we arranged to go out for dinner. I have not seen her for more than 30 years and now she is a grandmother!

We decided to go for a seafood dinner. We went to Rock Road Seafood Restaurant which is an established seafood restaurant in Kuching, known for its delicious and halal seafood.

The Rock Road Seafood Restaurant is of course located at Rock Road, Kuching.

Upon entering the Restaurant, the first thing that grabs your attention is the live fishes and prawns swimming in the tanks.

Also on display in iced boxes are the vegetables and seafood that is available for that night. In fact, you can order your food just by pointing to what you want and the restaurant will cook it for you.

For dinner, we ordered the signature dish, Satay prawns with buns, steamed Teochew style fish, buttered chicken and fried mixed vegetables.

The Satay prawns is their signature dish and are a must-have at this restaurant. A thick sweet sauce is added to deep-fried prawns. The sauce goes so well with the bun. I will give this a 5-star.

The steamed fish is very fresh and cooked in my favorite Teochew style.

The buttered was also delicious, the chicken was crunchy.

I liked the variety in the mixed vegetable dish.

It was really nice catching up on old times. After my family moved to Kuching from Tebakang, Roziah used to stay with us whenever she came to Kuching. My family would go out shopping with her and one of my fondest memories going to the movies. Tebakang being just a village in the rural area had no cinema. Whenever Roziah came to Kuching, a trip to the cinema is a must. I recalled one night when we actually watched two shows in one night!

I am happy about her children who are all grown up now and have families of their own. She has retired from her job as a teacher several years back. I am very grateful that through social media we were able to reconnect. It feels like time stood still when we met again after all those years as if no time had passed at all! Now that we have managed to re-establish contact, I hope that we will continue to keep in touch.

Not seeing each other for 30 years and then meeting for the first time must have been a mixed feeling... Thanks to technology and social media for making this happen for you both :) And the food photos are making me drool hehe. The fish tanks by the entrance is quite similar to what I have seen in seafood restaurants in China.

Yes, it's a bit awkward in the beginning. But it's the starting point of re-establishing our friendship. Thank you for dropping by.
