SHORT-EARED OWL REDEMPTION

Following up on my last post, where I missed out on getting a close-up shot of the short-eared owl we were photographing, I just had to go back out and redeem myself. Plus I had the lens I rented for another day, so I took my 12 year daughter, who loves owls, out to find the owl.
As soon as we pulled up to the area the owl was sitting on a post, and being the dummy that I am didn't have my camera and lens ready to go, it was still in my bag.
No worries, we still had 90 minutes of light left.
So we parked the car in a little turn off and watched the owl fly around hunting, which is very cool to see. One time it flew right over the car, then circled around and landed on a post 20 yards in front of me. It landed, looked right at me, then took off. It didn't like me being there.
After watching it hunt some more I decided to drive away from the spot in hopes that it would come and land on it's favorite post. And wouldn't you know, it did. As soon as we started driving it flew right in front of my car and landed across the road from where I was parked. I stopped and took entirely way too many photos of him perched in the post.
After a few minutes, off he flew to hunt some more.

This was shot at 400mm and still cropped in to around 100%.
