At the Grey Heron Colony in Vienna

North of the Danube in Vienna there is an intersting waterpark where several birds nest and bring up their children. One of the bigger birds there is the Grey heron that lives there in an big colony with several individuals breeding every year. From time to timne when I visit Vienna I also often stop by at the grey heron colony and take some pictures, so did I some weeks ago when I was there together with Stefan. They grey herons already having their offspring (children) and it is nice to watch how patiently they wait for their parents to return with some food.

Because this colony is situated in the City of Vienna, these birds are not as shy to humans as they are in other regions of Austria. And I have to admit it is the only place where I can get so close to them without them fleeing.

There is a Great Blue Heron rookery a very short distance up river from me. These photos were taken by a neighbor from her boat last weekend.

Oh nice.

I see them flying every day. Those babies are keeping them busy.

Nice 😀 In Prague ZOO we do have also wild bird Grey Heron colony.

Haha, in the Zoo a wild colony seems funny.

Wow! Beautiful photos!
Nope, I don't see grey herons here. Once in a while, I see white herons!
Thanks for sharing. You made my day!

Greetings @florian-glechner ,

What a lovely set of photographs of Herons...it must be amazing to see so many in one place...as we usually see the lone heron.

Thank you for bringing these photographs to Hive.

Kind Regards,
