Black Kite in Lower Austria

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

This Summer I had the luck to take several pictures of the black kite in Lower Austria. During my photography trip together with Stefan there I managed to take several pictures of different birds and also of course several birds of prey like this black kite. The black kite can be found in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, In Europe it is not so common but in Asia and Africa there is a very big population. But on wide open plains even in Austria you might find it hunting for prey. In Marchfeld Lower Austria where I took this picture, there are a lot of open plains where this bird can be found together with a lot of other birds of prey like eagles, buzzards, the red kite and falcons.

I think birds of prey are something very interesting and fascinating. And since the Kites are very interested in things that happen around them it is often possible that it fly's several circles above your head to inspect you. They are looking for mice, rats, fish, small birds, dead mammals of small size and even dead fish and birds. The black kite is the most common bird of prey and I hope this stays like this, since I like it also very much. The black kite is migrating from Africa and Asia to Europe in Spring and travels back in Autumn.

That a lovely bird amd nice shot @florian-glechner. You said is in Africa but am not sure in Nigeria

According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_kite

They should also travel to Nigeria, as I saw on the map they should be everywhere south of the Sahara.

Really? I hope to see them one day to take the shot.

Beautiful captures, great to see more Black Kites.
