Great bustard at Lake Neusiedler

A very seldom bird here in Austria and throuout europe is the great bustard. In Austria it can only be found near Lake Neusiedler and it is breeding and mating there. The mating is always a nice thing to watch. During mating time the feathers of the male are especially beautiful. They need grassland that is not agricultural in use and therefore their habitat has declined a lot in the last years. The meaddows near Lake Neusiedler are perfect for their breeding and at the protected nature reserve areas they can grow up and survive the important first year of their lifes. I was happy that the birds got pretty close to the road because I couldn't enter the grassland because of restriction but this is important so the birds don't get disturbed and still chooose these spots as their breeding grounds.
