Show Me A Photo Contest Round 174 - Free Theme: Nest building with the Great Crested Grebes

in Feathered Friends7 months ago

Great Crested Grebes are one of my favorite birds that i can find here at the wetlands of the Traun River in Linz or at the wetlands of the Inn River in Upper Austria. In spring I was able to take some pictures of their nest building activity. It was quite fun watching them building their nest in the shallow water. But also a bit difficult to not disturb them. I got pretty close but by all means I tried to stay as camouflaged and silent as possible to not disturb the birds and with 600 mm focal lengh I was also a bit away from their nest.

Watchting these birds building their nest is something really relaxing and so nice. I really enjoy being out there in the nature and watch them doing their activity and knowing that they are not bothered by me and just doing their thing. The male bird was really hard working and bringing one stick after another and the female was looking for the best spots where to put the new stick on the nest.
