The woodsandpiper is one of my favorite waders here in Austria and I have found it at the Lake Neusiedler and at the Inn River as well on a gravel pit near Linz. When it is looking for food in the shallow water it can get pretty close to me and I like these birds very much since the pitures get a lot better when they come pretty close. The best way to get some pictures of them is lying down in the sand or gravel and wait for them to come closer. When they don't recognize you as a threat then they probably will come really close like in these pictures.
It is always such a great feeling for me watching birds looking for small insects on the shore of a river or lake. Sometimes they are very busy and run from one spot to the other and sometimes they are more relaxed.

The woodsandpiper photos all are fantastic. In my area, I rarely find it I think they are not exist in my area or in my town where I live at all, they are a great birds that born in our earth.

I like them too very much, but I have to admit I like nearly all waders.

This species is one of few waders I have from Trebon region. Neusidler see is much better locality not comparable with carp ponds in South Bohemia.

Yes for small waders like the sandpapers it is better. But I heard you have a lot of White Tailed Eagles in Winter up there. But I also know it is difficult to find the spots where they hunt.
