At Your Beak And Call

All birds in this post, photography taken at Crocworld Conservation Centre, Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal a couple of years ago!

IMG_1346 ret.jpg

Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco) with crooked beak, most definitely not a bird of Africa, Apparently crooked beak happens when able to maintain the beaks length by honing on rocks or other hard surfaces.

IMG_1479_ret.jpg

Silvery-cheeked hornbill (Bycanistes brevis) aligned beak but what a load to carry around! A bird of Africa further North East Coast to where we reside.

IMG_1378_ret.jpg

Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) another nasal bird of large proportion. A regularly frequent flyer around the continents and Islands. Here playing follow the leader with one deciding to preen and clean a wee bit more before nap time....

IMG_1430.jpg

African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) a bird found throughout Africa near waterways, playing who is big daddy on the tree with little egrets sizing them up. Space for more? Colony well established open to come and go, quiet ones that gets on with life, perhaps that is why they are an ancient species!

Last photograph, flying away from one waterway to another the Sacred Ibis showing off it's beauty in the heat of the day. Thanks for visiting and do join in sharing birds from around our little blue planet.

Fantastic images, Joan! The information too!
Not to mention the proverb, the wisdom of your proverbs is priceless.

Bringing meaning to life, always good fun, thanks for awesome topics again Neli.

That toucan just cracks me up!! Such a cool looking bird. Great pics!!

Big beak always cracks me up, wonder how they use them 😂

To impress the ladies!! :0D

Wait What..., pin them down 🤣

I would love to visit this place so that I can see various birds..

We are fortunate in seeing birds from far off lands.

!LUV thanks for visiting.

The Toucan'a beak is awesome but then I saw the beak of the Hornbill - what a massive thing this is and you're certainly right by saying "what a load to carry around" ... great bird photos, Joan 😀

You hear crying noise or high pitched calls they make, leaves little to the imagination almost like an onboard gramophone. Don't look comfortable, must be something they learn to live with.

LOL, I can imagine their call 🤣 !LOLZ

I love Toucans and nearly had one as a pet years ago before I got my parrots. Friend of mine has a private bird sanctuary on the Vaal river where he takes care of birds from all over Africa. He has 2 of each like Noah's Ark being a security blanket for many rare species sent to him via various Park Boards. The noises are unbelievable as it is like Jurassic Park and you can hear his place kilometers away.

Sound they emit make these large beaks quite phenomenal, can imagine the sanctuary sounds in early mornings or late afternoon. I vaguely remember a small zoo on the Vaal river bank, down from Vereeniging station, river rose and they incurred problems and it was closed, a long time ago. Always good to hear of folk that take care of animals, educate those who are not familiar with them.

The Toco Toucan looks amazing, its peak was unique..
Since my first time to see, I check at google and hey, it has the largest birds class UpTo 7.5 inches long!

Only time I have had the privilege to see one, thoroughly enjoyed!

Those are so pretty

Bird life is prolific in our region, seeing birds from other regions a treat!

!LUV thanks for visiting.

Ohhhh. Amazing. You're welcome 😊

Love Mr.Toucan! colorful but evolution has left him with a strange oversized beak, for what purpose. poor Mr Hornbill he seems top heavy too.

Nature weird and wonderful

Bizarre how beak has formed on some species, still able to eat, performs normally, I suppose they don't think about it like we do.

I guess it is me looking through human eyes, they have survived so something must be right

Survived and look unique 😂

Beautiful photos thanka for sharing!

You welcome, life is never boring always learning new.

Now that’s a beak! What beautiful birds with huge honkers. 😊

Beautifully ugly in some ways, nature sure surprises us!

Great selection of birds! Toucan is very beautiful!

Distinct colouring on the Toucan is dazzling and delightful, glad I got to see one in real life, all be it in a cage!

The toucans always remind me of Guinness, they were part of Guinness ads back in the day!
Thanks for clearing up about the squint beak!

@joanstewart! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @tengolotodo. (5/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

Gulping down efficiency perhaps was on the advertisers brain. Beak needs lots of attention to make it efficient, especially these large ones.

Thanks for the tokens and have a great day!

Yes lots of attention it would seem Joan!

My pleasure and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
