Goldcrest, the smallest European bird

in Feathered Friends2 years ago

I don't know why, but I missed a whole week and did not post anything. Time is becoming more precious and I am torn between working hours and my family. My furballs require also attention and I try to get enough time for each one (a dog and three cats). Hubby helps me a lot and this gives me time for my hobby, the birding and bird photography, moreover we both share the same passion about the birds.

Still, the time to commute I used for Hive, now not so often. Especially when I am back from work, I'd rather rest my eyes instead of staring at the tablet. But enough talking about myself. It is Feathered Friday and I have prepared some cute photos of the Goldcrest I want to show you.

When the migratory birds left to the south, the park was a bit less lively. But other birds came and I was pleased to spot the wren and the robin along with chaffinch and hawfinch. But I was expecting the goldcrest to come and thought it may not when we heard the sound that was undoubtedly coming from the fir tree.

You've no idea how happy I was when I saw not one, but two small birds. Hubby said he saw three. Suddenly the tree was alive and I was moving around to get the best shot.

How haughty to show me your bum. It is very challenging to snap it, the goldcrest is very tiny, it is the smallest bird in Europe.

8.5–9.5 cm (3.3–3.7 in) in length,[3] with a 13.5–15.5 cm (5.3–6.1 in) wingspan and a weight of 4.5–7.0 g (0.16–0.25 oz)

So, imagine this small feathered ball hopping nonstop and how difficult is to focus.

And oh lucky me, the bird is turning towards me and now or never, gotcha 😀

But not for long, again it showed me its rear part.

And because it never stays in one place, hopped and turned. I just kept on clicking.

Now I can say that these were lucky shots and best by far. Last years I made some photos of the goldcrest, but not so good. Really challenging but very rewarding. 🙂

I will keep on looking for it, although this weekend will be rainy, like it was the whole week.

Still, temperatures are above zero and there is no real winter yet. But who knows, weather can change very quickly.

My aim will be to make better shot of this small birdie, where no twigs and needles can be seen in front.

Until then, wishing you a very pleasant weekend and happy birding!

Wow, what an interesting beautiful bird. Small and beautiful!

It is very beautiful. And so hard to spot.

Staying away from the keyboard and the screen is also good and needed...😉 Have a nice time with family, pets and birds my dear ! ( needles and twigs make charming scene for the birdie 😊)

Thank you, Barbara. I was glued to the screen and my eyes would fall off. lol

This little buddy is very cool! Unfortunately, I have not met these birds (I don’t know why), but I know that they are very nimble and constantly moving quickly, because of this they are difficult to photograph. But you did it!

Thank you, @ratel.
I considered myself lucky again. We have to return when we heard the sound to check it out. These kinglets are so adorable.

That's a full photo shoot! Lovely portraits! 😃📸👍

We featured your photograph in our @PhotoCuration selection, congrats!
