Bullfinches feast on tree seeds

Winter this year is very snowy. There is a thick layer of snow on the ground. Birds have a hard time finding food. Many bushes are covered with snow. These bullfinches decided to eat tree seeds. Fortunately, there are a lot of seeds this year. During the autumn they dried up and now it is easy for birds to gnaw them.

They tear off the seeds from the branches and quietly gnaw them while sitting. Of course, it is a pity that now they have such a meager diet. But alas, it's winter. Therefore, they are happy to eat these seeds. Bullfinches gather in small flocks and fly from one tree to another. I saw how they sat on a mountain ash and ate its berries. But unfortunately deep snow made it impossible to get closer to them to photograph them.

But when the bullfinches were sitting on the trees, they did not pay any attention to me at all. After all, it was high and they did not feel the danger from me. It was very cold and soon the battery in the camera froze. I had to change to another, which I kept specially in my pocket.

True, the second battery was only enough for a few shots. I had to re-insert the old one, which had not warmed up much. It's good that the day was sunny and the sun, though not much, but warmed me.

However, the bullfinches apparently were not cold. They fluffed out their feathers and looked like little fat people.

Of course it is a pity that they were sitting high on a tree. It was difficult to find a good angle for pictures.

But the bullfinches were busy with their work for which they flew. Apparently they were very hungry. These seeds were now good food for them.

This female is sitting on a branch and examining the seeds in the tree. Apparently he chooses the most delicious for himself. Although the choice is not great. She probably ate the rest.
