The forest dwellers of Vyakhiri are nibbling fresh green grass in the clearing.

The cold days are almost over. More and more sunny and warm days. Today I am leaving the forest and I see two wood pigeons in the clearing who are calmly nibbling on the fresh grass that has grown. Apparently in winter they lacked vitamins, so with the onset of spring they decided to fill this gap.

Not all the snow has melted in the forest yet. There are many more in the lowlands. But in the clearings it has long been gone and fresh grass has quickly grown there. Many different birds immediately flocked here, looking for food here.

In the city, these birds can be seen very rarely. Mostly in large parks. Their main habitat is the forest outside the city. Although these birds look like pigeons, they never live with city pigeons. They always keep apart.

They make their nests in the trees and raise their chicks. Almost the whole year they fly in pairs, even when the chicks grow up and begin to live independently.

Their guttural cries can often be mistaken for the hoot of an owl. These are very unique birds. What is good is that they are not very shy and you can approach them at a fairly close distance.

I tried to feed them every time I came to the forest. They got used to it pretty quickly. Seeing me, they flew closer, sat on the branches and waited for me to give them food.

These birds are quite peaceful. I have never seen them fight among themselves or other birds. Communication with them is always a pleasure. Although these are not quite rare birds, I always enjoy photographing them.
