By the end of winter it got colder here. Sometimes at night it gets down to minus 27 degrees Celsius. It immediately became difficult for the birds to find food. That's why I go to the bird feeder every day and bring them some seeds.
This feeder has been hanging here for quite a long time. It is located next to the path to the forest. Many people passing by the feeder put various food for birds in it.
During this time, the birds have already become accustomed to the fact that there is constant food in the feeder and from early morning they gather here in flocks.
Tits mainly feed here in winter. Sometimes sparrows fly in. Rarely, small woodpeckers sometimes fly in.
Sometimes pigeons and jackdaws fly in. But the feeder is small and they cannot get inside. They cling to the edge of the feeder with their paws and, hanging on the feeder, try to get food for themselves.
For large birds, many throw pieces of bread on the ground under the feeder and the birds easily find the food, grab it in their beaks and quickly fly away so that it is not taken away.
Tits are very calm. They sit on the branches near the feeder and fly in there one by one, take a seed in their beak and fly to the nearest branch and there, pressing the seed with their paw, peel it and eat it.
This is how people help birds survive the cold season.
Ouch that's cold!! Although I have mixed feelings about food suplying to wildlife, I would say it totally makes sense in this case, survival wise. Besides, provides great birdwatching opportunities! 😉
I agree with you. As a rule, I help the birds when it's cold. In warm weather, they can find food themselves.
Seems a perfect compromise! 👌🙂
