Woodpecker at a tit feeder

in Feathered Friends5 days ago

It got warmer, but the weather was very cloudy. Thick clouds and still fog. I decided to go to the nearest forest
feeder for tits. I always put some seeds there for the tits and other small birds that fly in. Although I saw larger ones there, which tried to get food for themselves from the feeder. Even pigeons tried to get into the feeder, seeing food for themselves there.

I did not expect to see any birds near the feeder. Usually in such weather they do not fly there or there are very few of them. I had already come very close to the feeder when suddenly I saw a woodpecker on a tree next to the feeder, who was looking at me attentively.

At first I was even confused and even stopped in place. Then we looked at each other for a while. I thought that he would fly away, but he sat motionless in place pressed against the tree trunk. I carefully and slowly raised the camera and managed to photograph him. The woodpecker immediately moved behind the tree trunk and hid there.

I began to carefully walk around the tree trunk to see it again. The woodpecker sat motionless, almost right next to the tree. He probably hoped that he would not be noticed.

It was small, about the size of a large sparrow, and apparently flew here to climb into the feeder and feast on some seeds.

He was probably very hungry and that's why he didn't fly away. I slowly returned to the feeder, poured some seeds in there and moved away and started to watch. The woodpecker came out from behind the tree and approached the feeder and started to carefully examine its contents. But he didn't climb inside the feeder, apparently he was afraid of me. I decided not to disturb him and went back towards the city.

The color variations that this bird has are truly amazing.

Thank you very much. This woodpecker is very young.
