Woodpecker creeps to the tit feeder

This day was cold, but sunny. I went to check on the tit feeders as usual. I took with me seeds and pieces of unsalted lard. It's cold outside so the birds will be waiting for their food. It is very difficult to find food during this period of time. Yes, and they are used to the fact that people help them in this difficult cold time.

I went to the bird feeders. I see that they are completely empty. Tits are sitting on the branches of a tree nearby. They seem to be waiting for food to be brought to them. I filled the feeders with seeds. He hung pieces of bacon on the branches. Then he stepped aside and got his camera ready. Although I have photographed birds at this place many times, you can always expect something new. I was especially interested in new birds, which often flew to the feeders.

Although these feeders were intended mainly for tits, various birds began to visit here. Since bird food was constantly poured into these feeders, tits were always nearby. Apparently they attracted other birds who saw how the tits drag seeds from the feeders and immediately eat them.

I was not wrong in my assumptions. Literally a minute later, a woodpecker landed next to a tree on which a large feeder hung. He jumped onto a tree trunk at the foot and began to carefully examine everything. He looked at me especially for a long time. But I stood still and soon he began to examine the feeder hanging low above the ground. The tits merrily took turns jumping into the feeder, grabbed the seeds and flew away. The woodpecker was especially interested in pieces of bacon hanging on a branch. He saw that tits fly up to him and pinch off small pieces.

He began to move closer to them. I slowly raised the camera and pressed the shutter. The woodpecker immediately started up and looked in my direction. I froze again. But as soon as I pressed the trigger again, the woodpecker instantly took off and sat on the branches of a neighboring tree. I waited a long time for him to come back and I would be able to photograph him again. But alas. He flew to a nearby Christmas tree and began to peck at the fir cones hanging on it.

Да, дятлы любят сало зимой. Странно что он предпочел шишку.
