We saw an unexpected resident in a courtyard of a small restaurant.
The Speckled Pigeon (Rock Pigeon) seemed not to mind the clientele of the restaurant walking past his fountain.
At a charity meeting today discussing the new Coding Project, this fellow on the pillar was listening in on our conversation. Of course we did not mind, as not often that a person would see a live pigeon waiting for his food order to be brought to him.
I have a Rock Pigeon for you in two different places today. One at the restaurant and the other at our home.
The specie name is "Speckled Pigeon" (Columba guinea). We have always called them Rock Pigeons because they lived in the mountains/hills, but now they have invaded the towns in search of food.
Just a nice Acraea butterfly here to break the story.
Right, now we will have a look at another Rock Pigeon here in our garden at home.
He was just having a cool drink on a hot day, sat for a while in meditation, and then he was gone.
Beautiful birds with their speckles and red masks. Their only predators are mankind and the destruction of their environments led to a lack of food so they had to make a plan. The invasion of the towns was the only answer and they seem to flourish in the new surroundings.
Amazing how wild birds and animals can adapt to fit in with manmade structures. The Rock Pigeon is not as populous as the ordinary town pigeons and it is always an exception to see them.
We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures.
