🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
📚 Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
📚 major (lat.) large

At present, almost all of these woodpeckers have formed a pair, and are already building nests in hollows. The hollow is made mainly by the male and is very high.
However, there are still unformed pairs, which is very rare. The male behaves aggressively, actively attacking other woodpeckers, he screams and drums on a tree.

Young woodpeckers have a red cap on the entire surface of the head. And they also sit quietly on a tree and wait for their parents to feed them. And this is very dangerous for them, because the forest is full of predators such as kites and hawks that can catch them. Therefore, when you see a young woodpecker, it is better not to attract any attention so that predators from a height do not see it.
