🦉 The grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus), also known as the grey-faced woodpecker
- Picus (lat.) woodpecker; in Romanesque mythology, Peak, or Picus, the Roman god of forests and the king of Latium, distinguished by male beauty, rejected the love claims of the sorceress Circe (Kirka), after which the offended Kirka turned him into a woodpecker
- canus (lat.) gray

This species of woodpecker is quite rare. And I meet them about once every two years. They live in mixed forests, where there are clearings, in other words, in light forests.
They love to eat ants, so on the very first warm days of spring they go down to the ground where they catch them, and also inspect the trees where the ants crawl.

This woodpecker's voice is melancholic and falling. It reminded me a little of the voices of falcon birds.
Sexual dimorphism is expressed in the form of a red cap on the head of the male; females do not have this.
