🦉 The tree pipit (Anthus trivialis)

  • Anthus (ancient Greek mythology) Antus, son of Hippodamia, turned into a bird
  • Trivialis (lat.) common, simple, banal

This bird belongs to the wagtail family (Motacillidae), but to describe it in a nutshell - forest wagtail.
These guys appear in the forests in the midst of spring. And the forest is filled with their songs. The male actively sings in flight or while sitting on a tree. The mating display with a chirping song begins by taking off from a perch in an upward arc. The male then glides down on open wings with a characteristic extended ending to the song.

However, he spends most of his time on the ground. Therefore, in the spring, to see these birds, you need to stop and listen. This wagtail will give itself away by rustling grass and dry leaves. It’s especially funny to watch how these birds deftly run balancing between blades of grass.
