🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
- Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
- major (lat.) big
In the summer I love watching young birds, how they learn about the world and try to do something on their own.
As you can see, this is a young woodpecker, a teenager. He still has a big red cap on his head. This teenager was in the grass and examining something, and suddenly found some kind of cone that had fallen from above.
But he is still too young to do anything with her. His parents have not yet taught him how to hollow out “forges” in trees in order to later get seeds from this cone. So he just tried it, threw it, pecked it. Then he climbed a tree and moved around it.

I love woodpeckers, they are very hardworking birds, in addition to being beautiful, I love the combination of colors of their feathers. Beautiful shots, appreciate you sharing with us.
