🦉 The rook (Corvus frugilegus)

  • Corvus (lat.) raven
  • frugilegus Latin: frugis, frux fruit, legĕre to collect

For some reason unknown to me, these birds do not live in my city. They can only be found near the highway, where they like to look for animals hit by cars. But in the neighboring region these birds became synanthropes, that is, city dwellers.

They can easily be found near trash cans in the company of jackdaws. My father grew up in this city and told me that rooks spend time in the city during the day, and late in the evening they fly to their home, namely to a cemetery where there are many trees.
I took these photos (except for the one taken on my phone) outside the city in a flooded meadow. This rook flew by with a large prey in its beak.
