🦉 The Siberian long-tailed rosefinch (Carpodacus sibiricus)
(outdated name - Uragus Sibiricus)
- Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
- Uragus oura (Greek) tail, ago (Latin) set in motion, make
- sibiricus (lat.) Siberian
In my memory, the English name of this bird has probably changed 4 times. And it will probably change again. And we simply call this bird - Uragus. there are also outdated or unofficial folk names - long-tailed bullfinch
As you can see in my photographs, sexual dimorphism is pronounced. The male is beautiful pink, and the female is plain gray.
One of the amazing things about these birds is that they have learned to use railways as a guide. During autumn and winter migrations they fly along them.
They eat exclusively plant foods and feed their children the same.
