🦉 The Eurasian bullfinch, common bullfinch or bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)
- Pyrrhula (Greek): pyrrhos - red
These plump and cute birds lead a secretive lifestyle, and only in mid-autumn do they slowly begin to appear in the forests, making their presence known with their quiet whistling calls. With these calls they gather in a small group to fly dreamily through the forests. And with the arrival of winter and the appearance of snow these birds can be seen in city parks.
In city parks and courtyards these birds visit feeders that contain sunflower seeds, but their main food is rowan seeds. Having sat on a branch with a berry, they tear the berry from the base and eat the seed, spitting the pulp of the berry down.
