🦉 The tree pipit (Anthus trivialis)
- Anthus (ancient Greek mythology) Antus, son of Hippodamia, turned into a bird
- Trivialis (lat.) common, simple, banal
These forest wagtails arrive mainly at the end of April when the snow has completely melted. The mating season begins, and the forest is filled with birdsong. The male, sitting on a separate branch, begins his song, then flies up, continuing it, and then smoothly hovers back or to the nearest branch. I have seen this many times, but unfortunately it is very difficult to take a photo of this moment.
The fact that they belong to the wagtail family is revealed by their gait and characteristic wagging of the tail. These birds like to walk on the ground in search of food, while they are practically invisible due to their natural plumage coloring.
