🦉 The Icterine warbler (Hippolais icterina)

  • Hippolais - (Greek) a small bird mentioned by Aristotle and others, later identified as the wheatear Oenanthe, because hypo under, laes stone; the name Hippolais is thought to be a misnomer for the warbler (Jobling, 2010)
  • icterina - ikteros (Greek) jaundice-yellow color; yellow bird

I have repeatedly said that the oriole is one of the most cautious and timid birds, and that it is very difficult to see and take a photo of it. However, this applies not only to it! And if I still photograph the oriole every year, then with the Icterine warbler things are much more difficult.

I was really tired when I took these photos! This bird is elusive! It specially chooses places on trees and bushes so that no one sees it. It does not hide, no. It actively sings songs. It has a specific voice, which can be described as something creaking, mixed with the voices of other bird species that it heard somewhere.
