🦉 The Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), also known as the northern sparrowhawk

  • Accipiter accipere (lat.) to grab
  • nisus according to ancient Greek mythology Nisus (or Nisus), king of Megara, and his Skill's daughter, who betrayed her father because of her love passion for the enemy - the Cretan King Minos, were turned by the gods into birds of prey

Sometimes in the forest where I go most often new species of birds appear. And it so happened that for 2 years these predators lived in this forest. It is worth saying that this species does not live in the forest itself, not in the depths, but on the outskirts where there are open spaces nearby. And in such places of the forest I met them.

As you can see in my photos, this bird has caught something and is eating it. And these predators feed on small birds, from warblers to thrushes.
Therefore, in early spring or autumn, when birds fly in flocks, it is worth listening to them. If they suddenly become restless and scream, then it is worth looking around, they probably saw a predator.
