🦉 The spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata)
- Muscicapa lat .: musca fly, capere to catch
- striata (lat.) streaky, striped, speckled
This bird is not remarkable in appearance at all, it has no outstanding features. I have never heard songs of these birds (and do they have any at all?). But at the same time, this bird does not try to be secretive, it has quite normal behavior.
There is perhaps one interesting feature in its behavior. When hunting, the bird sits on a separate branch where the territory is clearly visible (and the bird itself is also clearly visible). Having seen the prey, it flies after it, grabs it, and then returns back to the perch. And the bird always sits vertically.
