  • The Eurasian siskin (Spinus spinus)

I don't come across these yellow birds very often. They are usually easiest to spot in the spring, during their mating season. By this time, large flocks break up, and the males actively sing songs to attract females. The songs consist of various soft trills with buzzing sounds.
It is not easy to get close to the bird, they are quite timid, the easiest way to catch them by surprise is to hide somewhere.

By autumn they form large noisy flocks flying through the forests. In winter I hardly saw them, but if a bird lost its flock and did not fly away with them, then siskins can join their northern relatives - redpolls and fly with them. I noticed this a couple of times.
