🦉 The great tit (Parus major)

  • Parus (lat.) Tit
  • major (lat.) large

They are probably one of the most recognizable and beloved birds in our area. Their bright yellow belly with a black stripe and white cheeks make them real beauties among small birds.

They are real fidgets. They can be found all year round, but they especially delight us in winter, when they fly to feeders in search of food, such as seeds, nuts or lard. They are not afraid of people and can fly very close, as if to say: "Hey, do you have something tasty?"

In spring, tits begin to sing their ringing mating songs. Even in winter, as soon as it gets warmer, you can hear a pair of experienced males briefly performing modest two-syllable songs. And already in March, their voices completely fill the forests, parks and even city courtyards. At this time, they actively search for places for nests, often choosing tree hollows or even birdhouses that people hang especially for them.
