Here are some sightings for this #featheredfriday
I took a trip to a grassfed farm and finally saw a meadowlark.
I have known they are around here but have rarely ever seen them staying still long enough for a shot.
I wish it had let me get closer before flying off. They are quite a large bird but also very shy. I would have liked to get a shot of its nice yellow throat with a closeup photo.
In the meantime the house sparrows are always ready for a closeup shot.
The farm had some flypaper put up and quite a few of these sparrows got caught up in it. It was a bit too gruesome to photograph the sparrows stuck together lol.
The sandhill cranes are back in the marshes. I didn't see any of their chicks this time maybe they were hidden in all the grass.
I keep seeing robin nests everywhere too. I'm hoping to get a shot of them being fed soon.
I never miss a chance to try and get a shot of a goldfinch. Sadly this guy's face was slightly behind the branch.
As usual the red-wings are great posers as they are trying to attack you.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

There is one outside our screened in porch. She gets nervous everyday when we have lunch on the porch lol
I'll keep eyes out for meadowlarks, you are like my early warning for which species to be on the look out for 🙂
Are the babies looking out of the nest yet? The one that would be right outside my apartment building's laundry room got used to me and I even fed the chicks a few waxworms when the mom was gone.
Meadowlarks seem to like really large prairie areas. I think they spend most of their time in the grass so you rarely see them. This guy was on the fence post chortling possibly looking for a mate.
Babies not out yet. We had a grassy hill at the end of our street in California that the meadowlarks loved. Those were western ones though, the eastern is a little different.
I tried to get a shot of its black v-neck but of course it flew off as I angled around it.
When I was a kid I used to know where all the meadowlarks were nesting in the pasture. I haven't seen one in years.
Ah so they are ground nesters? I know of a place around here with bobolinks who also ground nest, maybe it will have meadowlarks too. The key is to find a prairie that doesn't get plowed or mowed.
