White-bellied Woodpecker | Dryocopus javensis parvus | Simeulue Island, Aceh, Sumatra, |
Hey guys, this time I'm posting about the encounter of the White-bellied Woodpecker species (Dryocopus javensis parvus) which is a subspecies of Simeulue Island. This species is one of the woodpecker species that live in the forests of Simeulue Island. With its large body, solid black color, and striking white belly, this bird is not only eye-catching but also has an important role in the forest ecosystem. Its distinctive and often loud voice is a sign of its presence in the large trees that are its home.
This bird has a body length of about 45 cm, making it one of the largest woodpeckers in Asia. Its beak is strong and sharp, used to carve tree trunks when looking for insects under the bark. In addition, the White-bellied Woodpecker is known as a very territorial species and is active during the day, usually flying between large trees with extraordinary agility.
The White-bellied Woodpecker is more often found in the forests of Simeulue, especially forests that have large and old trees. The presence of this species is considered an indicator of forest health, because it requires intact habitat and is rich in large trees that are used as places to find food and nest.
Simeulue Island itself is one of the islands located in the province of Aceh, Indonesia, which has a diverse diversity of bird species. Almost 70% of its bird species are subspecies because one of them is influenced by the long distance from the main island of Sumatra.
Hopefully this post provides useful information for its readers.
