A Celebration of Grateful Hearts

Hello, Hive Family and Friends! How are you doing today? I hope and pray that we are all doing good right now. Allow me to share with you a celebration of thanksgiving for all the blessings we received last September 2024.

Last September 28, 2024, we celebrated the feast of St. Isidore in our barangay. At first, we planned that I'd be the one to cook the foods for our guests. But when I contacted Dawn, our close friend who is a food service provider, I availed of her food package worth sixteen thousand pesos. It consists of six different kinds of dishes and a lechon. I then told my wife that we would make a hanging rice, or pusó in our local dialect. We ask someone to get us some palm leaves for us to start weaving on the day before the feast. On the vesper evening, we put rice inside the woven pouch of palm leaves so that it would be ready in the morning for cooking.

Aside from our order from Dawn, we also ordered six dishes from Wyatt's food package. We are expecting our co-teachers, friends, and learners to come and celebrate with us our thanksgiving to the Lord. I even asked Heart, one of our grade 12 learners, to help me in preparing the table set up. I did not avail of full catering on this occasion because I just wanted to make our celebration simple. We just want our friends to come for us to enjoy together the blessings we have received despite our hardest times.

On the feast day, I woke up early to cook the hanging rice. I also managed to clean our surroundings while waiting for the pusó to be cooked. I thought our food would be delayed since Dawn informed me ahead that they might deliver past noon. That is why we ordered another food package to be delivered at 10:30 since some of our friends will arrive at 11 a.m. But Dawn's food package arrived before 11 a.m. The driver said that he did his best to come on time because he knows that we have a lot of guests. Thanks to him, because after a few minutes, our colleagues arrived.

We blessed the food before partaking it. While they were eating, I serenaded them with my favorite songs. I just set up an audio amplifier and speakers, and I connected my phone to it. That is why I only have a few photos from this occasion, because I was using my phone for the karaoke. When my colleagues were done eating, they also sang their favorite songs. While the friends of my wife were busy harvesting our lemon.

Some of our learners had their chance to sing, though they couldn't hit the right note of the songs, which made us have a lot of laughter. I really wanted to take a nap in the afternoon, but I still have guests, especially one of my learners from Northeastern Cebu Colleges in Danao City. I just tolerated my tiredness so that I could entertain our guests.

It was 4 pm, and the high school classmates of my wife joined our celebration. They were at our neighbor's house, who is my wife's cousin. They told me that they wanted to know me and also to spend time with us by sharing our life's experiences. They were sharing their high school memories with their teachers. They also shared some of their problems that they tried to overcome. They also asked to do the karaoke while having their beer. They keep on asking me to drink, but I refused since I quit drinking liquor when we had our kids.

I was waiting for my grade 9 learners to come. It was 6 in the evening, yet they did not come. I messaged them in our group chat, asking why they did not come to our house. They replied that they were coming; they were already at the gate during lunch time, but they went back because they were shy. I told them that I would wait for them. When they arrived, I told them to eat, and after we will have a karaoke session. We enjoyed so much that night. I had a short yet memorable moment with them. They keep on telling me to keep my faith in God despite my worries and difficulties.

Gathering our friends is like gathering our families. They are the ones who keep on pushing us to get through the hardest battles in life. They inspire us to continue doing good even if our goodness is abused. This celebration was made possible because of our grateful hearts. We were grateful enough to the source of everything for what He has done for us. We will continue to be living witnesses of His goodness.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Till next time.

I only tried puso once when I visited Cebu last 2020 before the pandemic outbreak .

And the letchon! I missed the crunchy skin!

But do you have pusó in your area? When we have occasions I prefer to have this one because it will not get easily spoil.

This holiday season, for sure you'll have lechon.

No, just cooked rice 😆.
But we have ibus

It's sticky rice wrapped in coconut leaves

I'm really curious on how to make puso😭😭

I learned it when I was still a kid from the pusó vendors at Pine Tree Mall. I even made 1000 pcs for me to earn some money. You can learn it too. It's just so easy. 🫶

I miss lechon

There are lots of lechon in Danao this coming holiday season. You'll have it for sure. Lechon in Danao tastes so good. 🫶
