Goals are so important for keeping one on task. There's a mental technique called the 5 Second Rule (by Mel Robbins) that has helped me a lot. Basically, anytime I start overthinking something, I just count down from 5 to 0, say go, and act. It helps a lot because I have a propensity to get stuck in thought-land and is really a simple thing to do.
