Nothing has made me believe in this statement more than what I’ve been through over the last few years. It specifically rang true for what I found myself having to journey through last year. I was trying to think of just one story to share, and then quickly remembered that the easiest way to explain this would have to be the time I decided to make bath bombs! Yes, those round, fizzy balls you throw in the tub for some much needed me time.
I was, essentially, a stay-at-home mom and I was trying anything and everything to supplement our income. I was not quite ready to return to the workplace as I was still reeling from some trauma and a very hectic 2020. The latter I’m sure many can relate to. At the time I was selling a range of CBD products at markets and online and I was trying to figure out a “cheaper” alternative for people to try and experience the wonders that is CBD. And that is when I came up with the Chillax CBD bath bomb idea.
So off I went and started doing my research, sourcing ingredients and moulds. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and was looking forward to making my first batch of bombs. The first few batches were a complete disaster. From premature fizz activation, to not setting hard, to setting and then going soft. Ag I remember when I discovered this one after I had sold a few to two lovely people.
I quickly realised that the recipe I was using was not right and quickly used a more trusted source for my base. I was very happy with the consistency of this recipe, you kind of need your batch to be a lot like kinetic sand. Moist but not too much so and not to dry as then it won’t set in the mould. Think sandcastles down at the beach kind of consistency.
Once I was done with that, I was still battling to get perfectly set round bath bombs. So off to google I went and spent the better part of my morning watching bath bomb tutorial videos on YouTube. From here I learnt that I should only put the Bicarb in after your wet ingredients and from watching how they stuffed the moulds I figured out that I had been using too little mixture. Think again about the sandcastles, it takes a lot of sand to get that sandcastle to stand up straight.
Armed with all of this I successfully managed to make bath bombs that were perfectly round and hard and ready to sell. You see I didn’t stop trying to figure out how to make it work. I tried repeatedly to get it right and in the end all my research paid off and I perfectly set, round bath bombs! I could have very easily given up and just stuck to bath salts, but hey where is the fun in that!
I’ve often applied this type of approach to many challenges that I have faced in my life and trust me it has worked almost every single time.
So next time you feel like throwing in the towel, try again, ask a friend or if you’re stubborn like me go and go until you figure it out! And like most of my posts I hope that this little bath bomb story can help someone out.
