Slowly Feeling Alive Again

Life has been a challenge for me this year and it was hard for me to go out. Feeling afraid and paranoid I have been locked up from home for more than a year. We go out to get supplies but that is it. No wandering around to enjoy being outside. I have fought depression and started my recovery. After more than I year I finally was confident enough to take a stroll again at our local park.

PASEO

I was surprised to see that the walkway was being renovated. It looks like a mess and a wreck at this time but I'm sure they will finish the reconstruction soon. I can personally relate to this scenario to my life which has been a wreck but is being reconstructed slowly.

1.JPG

Half of it is almost finished and is starting to look good. Back then this area used to be filled with food stalls in the afternoon. Lots of people, good food and a great place to spend time with the family. That is no longer allowed due to health and safety reasons.

2.JPG

Out here it was hard to find a spot to sit and relax. Now people don't spend much time here anymore. I feel this is a different place even though I have been here so many times already.

3.JPG

An online casino is being constructed on the other side. Used to be a resort that has a small zoo. Lots of crocodiles, monkeys, and tigers.

4.JPG

Fish pens are common here and can be seen almost everywhere around the city.

5.JPG

The 13 Martys

Our city is rich with history and the place where the 13 martyrs have been executed. 13 Filipino patriots who supported the Revolution against Spain.

6.JPG

7.JPG

8.JPG

In remembrance of the martyrs. This monument was built and their names listed so they will never be forgotten.

Names and occupation

Luis Aguado • A son of a captain of the Spanish Navy
Eugenio Cabezas • Goldsmith
Feliciano Cabuco • Hospital worker
Agapito Conchu • Artist, photographer, teacher, musician
Alfonso de Ocampo • Sergeant of the Spanish army
Máximo Gregorio • Soldier of the Spanish Army, War commissary chief clerk
Máximo Inocencio • Freemason, construction contractor
José Lallana • Tailor
Severino Lapidario • Corporal of the Spanish Navy Marines
Victoriano Luciano III • Freemason, Pharmacist
Francisco Osorio • From a wealthy family, Pharmacist
Hugo Pérez • Doctor, Freemason
Antonio San Agustín • From a wealthy family, Book store owner

People from different backgrounds stood together for freedom.

As we continued to walk I noticed that the lamp post stands were painted and beautifully decorated. I love this one, in particular, a sea turtle that moves slow on sand but swift when in the ocean. I too am also slowly moving forward in my life. Slowly reaching for the ocean where I can again swim freely with no troubles in my mind.

TAHO

At the end of this walkway is a Taho vendor. What is Taho? It is a Philippine snack that can be found all over the country.

13.JPG

It is made from soft tofu and vendors can be seen peddling in the morning.

14.JPG

A syrup made from brown sugar and sago pearls is added with the soft tofu.

15.JPG

It is a delicious snack and can even be enjoyed as breakfast.

16.JPG

Life is sometimes bland but friends and family are like the sugar syrup that helps the loneliness go away. Sago pearls are round and bouncy just like our hobbies, passion and interests. It adds happiness to our lives.

THE PARK

18.JPG

Let's continue with our stroll in the beautiful morning. For a moment there I even forgot that there is still a pandemic going on.

I feel stronger and did not even feel fear while moving forward.

19.JPG

An old fountain that is no longer being turned on. I recall this also has lights and is very beautiful at night.

21.JPG

At the park, you can see people jogging and exercising. I have started exercising at home daily to stay healthy. I have lost pounds already which is also an important part of my recovery. A healthy body and a healthy mind should not be taken for granted.

22.JPG

Old trees still stand here that go back from the pre-war era. If trees could speak they have a lot of stories to tell.

23.JPG

24.JPG

A monument of our national hero can also be seen here.

25.JPG

Let's take a moment to rest for a while. I recall this lamp from 4 years ago. I made a post with my daughter here Meet Bear Kid that sparked my love for photography even more.

26.JPG

ERMITA DE PORTA VAGA

In 1667 there used to be a wooded chapel here and in 1787 they upgraded the chapel to a church made of stone. The church was damaged by an earthquake in 1863 but was rebuilt. During the war in 1932, the church was completely destroyed. In 1935 they decided to rebuild the church in a different location.

27.JPG

This model was built to teach us about our history and to remind us of our resilience.

28.JPG

29.JPG

Churches are my favorite subject and this made me realize to revisit the churches again soon.
30.JPG

This place and history reminded me of what happened to my hive account. Have been thru a lot of ups and downs but continued on. Then I lost my keys which completely destroyed it but continued to move on by using a new account and rebuilding.

31.JPG

TIME

32.JPG

As I recall there used to be an older clock here when I was young. I think the clock inside is still the original but they created a new tower for it.

Time never stops, time heals and let's make every moment worthwhile.

33.JPG

34.JPG

Trees are abundant here. A lot of these trees were planted by American soldiers. After decades of friendship, these trees still stand and bear fruit every year.

35.jpg

Kindness and love bear fruit. Like trees, friendship grows strong as time goes by. I didn't expect much support here when I came back. I am thankful for the people who supported me here. Some old friends and also gained new friends too.

To the people who are gems to this community who reached out. Thank you!
@dswigle @melinda010100 @thekittygirl @traciyork @wesphilbin @deerjay @brittandjosie @jamerussell and @theterminal.

There are also those who dropped by to show their support. I will be forever grateful.

36.JPG

37.JPG

Still, a long way ahead but this time around I'll be stronger. Slowly healing the mind and soul. Continuing with what I love doing and feeling alive again.

38.JPG

Thank you for joining me today in one of my daily strolls. I am hopeful that I will be sharing more in the future as I slowly go out again and feel the warmth of the sunshine. Revisit places and share my thoughts with you.

What a beautiful walk to go on with you! It is such a delight to enjoy your fantastic photos again.
Thanks for including the link to the @bearkid post. That lovely series that you created will become such family treasures as the years go by!

I was looking at my old bearkid posts and realized how time flies by so fast. We had so much fun back then. Still convincing her to do some shoots again even though she is all grown up now.

Super cool analogies watersnake @mhel, and the old adage that Rome was not built in a day is true; but which is better, to sloppily piecemeal something back together or take one's time and build it back to be 100 times stronger than it was!
You are doing excellent now, moving right along and now taking every opportunity to move ahead. And nice to see you out and about, surely provides a plethora of valuable optimisms. There is some beautiful scenery in those photos as well; and some things can change for the better even though we hesitate at first with the idea of changing our surroundings.
I always remember, "It could be better, or it could be worse.", just a simple optimistic truth.
Have an excellent week my friend.
James

Hello my friend @jamerussell
Rome was indeed not built in a day and I am taking things slowly but surely. Like a tree that slowly grows but the roots runs deeper in time. Paranoia is also fading and just still need to be extra careful. It felt great seeing the world again. I am glad you liked the photos. I feel a bit rusty and needs some work. Thank you my friend you have an amazing week.

Great that joy is a part of your life again as it should. The fact that we all helped a bit is just great.

It was a big help from all of you that gave me that extra push. It means a lot for us. Even though we are all from different sides of the world. These things makes a difference.

So happy to see the tag from you this morning, WaterSnake101! And even moreso now that I've read your post - you may feel that you're slowly getting back to normal, but after enjoying your shots and thoughts, I'd say you're further along than you think. 🤗

Hope you continue to heal well and I look forward to watching your journey. Sending lots of good juju your way. 🥰

@traciyork you are just pure magic. I am on my way. I really helps a lot when I just voice out and let go of my thoughts. I will continue on with this journey. Thank you.

Some amazing photographs and entertaining stories you created out of ordinary things. It felt like I was actually taking a journey with you 👍
I'm sorry for all the bad things that happened with you, but you will recover in no time, I'm sure!

I didn't know you from before, but I'm glad you're back and posting again.

So, welcome back dude!

That Taho seems delicious. 😋.

@yaziris Ah we chatted a bit at the terminal. Thanks for dropping by. It was a dark time but on my way to recovery. Thank you! Looking forward to chat again soon.

Thanks for bringing us with you with your photos and narrative being out and about already. Seems like the world doesn't stop right? May you stuck at home for long but still life goes on for others who has to face the world full of restrictions outside there homes.

Yes the world doesn't stop but we must learn to adapt instead. Thanks for spending time with my stroll.

You're very welcome and beautiful photos! I love all of the little details you captured and I bet that fountain was very beautiful to see when it is on but even with it not being on it is still a lovely piece of art! I'm glad they kept the old church up and it reminds me of the monuments being removed here in the USA. It is all a part of history be it good or bad and it is important to remember it in either case. Glad you were able to get out and share it here. I sure do hope you find your keys. Sometimes I lose something and I will remember where it is "out of the blue". 💖

I gave up on my keys but who knows maybe it will turn up the least expected. I am happy I get to go out again but always still very cautious. The old church I just wish there were still remnants from it. The church that they moved has undergone a lot of changes just recently. I prefer the old church designs. Have an awesome week @deerjay
