It is time that I say "hello" again to the wonderful world of Hive! Six months have passed since my original introductory post. And in that time Calendula Craft, the intent of this blog, and what I wish to share here have changed so much! I wanted to clarify and give a little background as to what those changes are and why.
Hello!
I am Chloe and although this account states I have been a member of Hive just since June of this year, I have actually been an active member via my other account Libra.Gardener since 2020! For a few months now I have been operating both and posting in different communities respectively. Originally Calendula Craft was created to reflect the more creative aspects of my sewing & mending business. Libra.Gardener has always been about gardening.
At the time keeping my two worlds separate made sense to me. But there was always the question of where to present this other aspect of my life and work as an herbalist and mystic. I have been so torn on which account to post under. As I continued sharing and tried to work this out, it got more & more confusing. Ultimately I have decided to move forward posting mainly under this name Calendula Craft which is also the name of my online business.
Herbalism and mysticism are my crafts just as much as sewing and writing are. It seems right to unite all these aspects of my work under one name.
When I wrote that original introductory post I was feeling very shy about sharing personal details. In general I would rather people pay attention to the crafts I make rather than the crafter making them. During the course of writing and sharing my creations here I have noticed that posts have much more interactions and votes if I actually appear in the photos. And maybe you are wondering a bit about me beyond the crafts I create.
Well, here are some fun facts:
Bilbo, Frodo Baggins, and myself all share the same birthday.
Originally I was born on the west coast, USA and have live in Latin America since 2016 woofing & traveling around, and since 2019 sedentary on a farm in the mountains of Argentina with my partner, three cats, and our garden. Each year I spend a month or two in my homelands of California, some of these images were taken there.
Nostalgia is a big part of my self care and I am currently re-watching "Gilmore Girls" from start to finish, one episode a day. And I also enjoy re-reading favorite books from my childhood like "D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths" and "Little Women".
Living so far away from home and family can be hard at times, though I appreciate the adventure of being a foreigner. In order to keep homesick at bay I love to quilt and make other crafts that my sister, mother, and ancestors have passed down to me.
That is all for now and I thank you for reading through my little re-introduction. If you had been following me over on Libra.Gardener I hope this cleared things up, and if not (if this is the first time we are meeting) nice to meet you!!

Ah! Now I know who you are having seen that other account around many times!
I do not include the pictures because I like folks focusing on the words I write... but I totally get it.
I never thought of it as 'nostalgia therapy' but I have been re-watching as many television series from my childhood as I can over the previous year... to kind of see what I noticed... and maybe how the shows had influenced me. Long story short I have found it to be super helpful!
I think going back and taking another look at television from childhood is helpful on many levels. During my childhood, and I am assuming yours too, we weren't constantly inundated with novelty. I grew up in the 90s so, there were certainly plenty of shows competing for attention but, not to the extent of media bombardment we have now with social media. I feel that it is good for our nervous systems to go back to "our roots" as far as media goes, slow down and ponder what was so formative. It is definitely interesting to re-read or re-watch and see what I notice also. For example I am re-reading the Lord of the Rings which I first read as a teenager and it is pretty much a different story from what I grasped back then.
The shows that I watched were mainly from the fifties to the eighties and by the nineties I had thoroughly tuned out. I feel rather blessed being born into Gen-X and realizing from an early age that all forms of media were some kind of programming.
I had really high hopes for social media but once the advertisers, politicians and celebrities got involved things went downhill fast. Nowadays it sure is quite the 'bombardment' (as you stated) and the younger generations seem to lack the 'mental firewall' required to filter out the noise.
Ha! I often re-watch shows (not just ones from my childhood) and re-read books. I have done it for an incredibly long time now and do it not just because I love the stories but because it shows me how I have changed in my thinking and/or attitude.
I think that I only re-read the Lord of the rings series two (or maybe three) times but I re-read the Wheel of Time series around six times now... and The Dark Tower series nine or ten times now. I started to re-read the latter a tenth time (last year) but fizzled out on it.
Beautiful reintroduction post ! :)
When I wrote my introduction post, I didn't share any personal details either, but always put a little in between in comments and posts when I felt more confident.
In a German post, I also strongly criticized the fact that people upload photos of themselves on crypto. In doing so, I questioned what crypto means, and it is supposed to serve privacy and anonymity. This is a real value that is given to us on Hive, but nobody appreciates this value of privacy anymore.
And because I noticed, like you, that you get more votes than those who don't show themselves. One of the things that bothers me is the self-promotion, which you can also do on other platforms such as Instagram. I think this is a false incentive given to us on Hive by people whose vote is worth more.
I also questioned why people want to use Hive at all.
And for me, it's the storage of important old knowledge, because posts can NEVER be deleted! and contact with people who inspire me :)
Nevertheless, I like to see the craftsman behind his art. Because in the being of the person, how he looks and works, you give the self-made a greater value. and with what care, mindfulness he devotes himself to his powers, to making a beautiful object that you like to have around you.
everyone finds different ways to present themselves or what they like and should be allowed to express themselves. and that's what hive is good for! here is no censorship.
best regards and a beautiful day ! <3
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I totally understand why people value their privacy and wish not to share their image. It was a big transition for me to move from not showing my face online at all to appearing on ever post, or mostly. But I do not think lesser of others for not showing their faces, probably they are better off!
I totally agree with you that a great thing about Hive is the storage of important information. For that reason I try to share about how to make crafts, herbal profiles and that sort of thing more than the personal details of my life.
A beautiful day to you as well!!
