Hey everyone! it’s my first time posting here. So let me take you a bit into my previous minimalist skin care journey.
overtime, I learned that I could survive with only about 10-12 essentials. And here is my minimalist makeup collection.
My minimalist make up collection 12 essentials
That was something I said 2 years ago and while it remains true until today, I made quite huge improvement on the products I use and invest a little more on my skin care routine than my make up. All these is also tied to my journey from tomboy-ish style to reclaiming my femininity.
In the past, I generally don’t care if I look put together while I am working at cafe, outside or anywhere really. I just make myself less notiecable and move as quietly as possible but these days, I am embracing my femininity and grew out of my tomboy girl era. It’s why I take care of my look a lot more than before including the skin care that I am taking a lot more seriously,
At the same time, my style has changed a lot more from someone who enjoys wearing backpack everywhere to now, moving more into totebag& handbags and following the latest fashion style. I enjoyed looking a lot more feminine and put together whenever I go outside. I suppose, since I got back into society and going out with friends again, I ended up following the conversation, and somehow has the need to appear presentable. Besides, looking put together and feminine can be quite refreshing given how I’ve pretty much ignored these aspect of my life these past few years. So, in my day-to-day life, instead leaving my make up/skin care bag home, I bring them everywhere with me.
Let’s unbox this mini pouch!
Still keeping it simple
My recent go-to simple skin care routine is : foaming wash, micellar water, serum, moisturizer and sun screen with face mask twice a week.
In the past, I was only using foaming wash, serum and sunscreen. Sometimes I added moisturizing cream and relied a lot on beauty parlor for extra routine but these days, I completely skipped on it and just do-it-myself.
One thing that changed is also micellar water that I added into my skin care routine. It soothes my skin and doesn’t really leave my skin too dry. I used different brands before but these days I stick with garnier. I also skip toner and choose to stick with mostuirizer. I like anything that soothe my skin and make it more supple. I personally don’t subscribe to any type of injection like botox and I won’t do that. To me, skin care routine is enough.
When in the past I was using serum from Wardah but these days, I’ve been using serum from Somethinc. I choose the 5% niacinamide rather than 10% because my skin problem isn’t severe and to me it’s mostly for maintenance. I heard it’s also a good entry point for someone who just started skin care. They have this mini packaging that I love and fits into my mini pouch so well.
Whereas other products I mostly use Wardah and Emina where they have light feel and are mostly catered to teenagers or mid 20 somethings. They are also drugstore skin care and easier to find. When I can’t find them outside the country, I can simply switch to nivea and korean skin care routine.
Clean girl look
These days effortless look can be synonymous with clean girl look. Basically, it’s a look that has no foundation and relies a lot less to corrector. To me, before that trend exist, I already subscribed to that aesthetic. If in the past, I was still using foundation, these days I skipped them completely and relied on powder, blush, lip tint, mascara and lipstick.
I got those when I was back home and didn’t bring any make up bag with me as I was rushing. They’re like convenience store make up but actually works. I am not exactly picky when it comes to make up brand, I use whatever is available at the drug store/convenience store. This is also influenced of my travel days where I practically often can’t find the same brand, so by not being picky, I saved myself some disappointment. Unlike before where I was a little picky and less experimented on them but these days, I am a lot more open with brands.
My only requirement is that it doesn’t feel ‘heavy’ on my skin because some brand like makeover and dior felt heavy on my skin and lips.
While it doesn’t really change much, adding blush into my look definitely elevate my face. It makes it a lot more lively than before. So, adding them into my make up list was the best decision I made.
Another thing when buying make up these days is that I become a lot more aware with my undertone. I am a warm toned and some colors just don’t match and make me look drab. I made a wrong decision picking that lipstick color but it’s saved with my peachy lip tint. Basically anything nude made me look pale and I need something that peachy enough to make me look like a human rather than a walking zombie.
Cherry on top!
Last but not least perfume! unfortunately, I was running out of my previous perfume. So, I got this perfume that smells pretty fresh like the usual blue ocean fresh. Usually I would purchase different type of perfume but this one has a smell I like and does the job to keep me fresh.
So, that’s what inside my small pouch that has my skin care, make up and perfume. They’re still pretty travel friendly & basic. I don’t think I’ll really change much because less is more to me.

Hi, I'm so glad to see you here and I'm surprised at the length of this post, which means you enjoyed writing it as much as I did reading it.
You brought a smile to my face with your tomboy look, it's good to rediscover your femininity, if you decide to do the same with your clothes and accessories you can share in the hives red carpet community, there I left my tomboy look and became a beautiful and sensual girl 🤣.
Regarding your routine, you use quite a few products well the necessary ones but still more than what I use. In my purse there is only a powder and a lipstick, I want to start using sunblock and more makeup.
I'm sure you must have a beautiful face, because I can tell you take care of yourself with these products. Regards @macchiata
Hahaha indeed I really enjoyed writing this. It was an idea I had in a while but because I was just busy, it slipped my mind.
I'll make sure to check that out! I actually enjoy these kind of things but maybe once in a while because I normally don't write that stuff :D.
I think sunblock/sunscreen is really important especially if you live in the tropics like me. It helps avoid skin cancer and prevents dark spots too. So, it's better to start it :) my mom is also like you but she starts adding sunscreen to her skin care routine.
Always appreciate that you're checking it out <3
I love that you told this here. I had a routine, I got a bit careless, but I'm thinking of buying again one or another product to take care of my face. After all, it's something we should all do. Of course, it should also come with a good diet. More fruits and vegetables. :3
You're right! good diet is also necessary with a good skin care routine.
I haven't tried Micellar cleansing, but I should buy and try it. I bought a set of skincare products from the same brand, sometimes I am too lazy to do a skincare routine. XD
Hiii, @macchiata! I enjoyed reading you.
This year I made a resolution to take better care of me. Take care of my skin and take care of my appearance, so I understand you when you talk about connecting with your femininity.
Our routines are very similar. I just prefer to use gel because of my oily skin, but I also use niacinamide, and at least once a week I exfoliate my skin.
I've found that sunscreen helps a lot when it comes to makeup because it leaves my skin looking nice, so I haven't used foundation lately either. Blush, mascara, pressed powder and lipstick. And I'm ready and pretty. Ready to go.
