RE: An overview of the ‘UNHIDE Hive’ project

List 1: A breakdown of five key areas (version 0)

This list takes five critical Hive growth areas and suggests what the components of those things might be. This is my first best guess. Your input is super important for getting it right for Hive. Weigh in on just one, some, or all.

1. Onboarding new users

  • [Tech] Open-source onboarding tools for devs
  • [Docs] How to use onboarding tools, for devs & users
  • [Docs] Best practices for helping new users
  • [Docs] Best practices / instructions for peer-to-peer onboarding
  • [Docs] Review of “New to Hive” guides
  • [Data] Key performance indicators (measuring onboarding)
  • [Docs] How onboarding coordinates with anti-abuse efforts

2. Marketing Hive and its dApps

  • [Docs] General strategy (Why’s and How’s)
  • [Docs] General tactics (What’s, Where’s, When’s, Who’s)
  • [Docs] Market research
  • [Docs] Channel research
  • [Docs] Partnerships
  • [Docs] Events & Conferences
  • [Docs] Social media
  • [Data] Key performance indicators (measuring marketing effectiveness)

3. Anti-abuse efforts

  • [Docs] Definitions of abuse
  • [Docs] Processes for reporting abuse
  • [Docs] Hive’s philosophy re: censorship resistance
  • [Tech] Systems (public or private) for detecting abuse
  • [Docs] Processes for appeals
  • [Docs] Fairness oversight
  • [Docs] How anti-abuse coordinates with onboarding efforts
  • [Data] Key performance indicators (measuring anti-abuse effectiveness)

4. Getting Hive listed on crypto exchanges

  • [Docs] Educational material: “why exchanges matter” (aimed at regular users)
  • [Docs] Technical requirements
  • [Docs] Fiscal requirements
  • [Docs] Current pipeline
  • [Docs] Risk assessment process

5. Crafting DHF proposals for any of the above

  • [Docs] Ongoing analyses (quant, qual) of current use of DHF funds
  • [Docs] Coordinated policy around use of funds
  • [Docs] Best practices for proposals
  • [Data] Key performance indicators (measuring funding efficiency)

All opinions not only welcome—but needed!

Anti abuse appeals, are degrading and inhumane, and use medieval methods, probably someone is going to hate on this comment.
Fairness? The group ccordinating anti abuse egfoets is not fair they are biased humans and they behave as such. Power corrupts and this is not good.
(Plagiarised content of a well known community member did not get the same treatment as others quote: he/she is this and thats protégée and that this and that is too powerful… )
About listings on exchanges, those cost money and a bi part of OGs on Hive don‘t want HIVE to be listed on more exchanges…
Conspiracy? Who knows…
It feels like there is over 20million follars floating around in the DHF used for projects that should be able to stand alone, actual companies we are subsidising to let them live. Nowhere in real market conditions does this ever happen.
We actually could take a big chunk of money and start the good old afvertising machine called google, bing, facebook, TIKTOK etc.
That would actually bring new users.

I would like to learn more about this and maybe go through the process myself somehow. I've never heard anything good about the process, but then again there are bound to be a lot of legit abusers who then complain loudly when their appeals are rejected.

Yes, this is why I think there should be at least two groups that coordinate efforts around anti-abuse, so that the punishers are not the same as the reviewers for some cases. Not sure exactly what that looks like, hence these discussions.

Hm, do you have evidence to support? A lot of 'failure to do things' on Hive feels more to me like an incredible lack of coordination vs. a shadowy force of very tight coordination.

100% agree that the funds in the DHF are not being efficiently used. I'm not sure if I'd commit a big spend towards ads before we fixed onboarding and other funnels, but that is certainly part of mix: telling people that we exist!

Check the HIvewatchers Discord on how appeal works... no evidence for the listing thing, just a conspiracy theory....

Gotcha. I've seen the "how" but the feeling and actual process is possibly something else, ya know?

The thing with the conspiracy is... if we got listed, all the big holders on Hive would likely get a LOT richer (exposure = a likely sustained price hike + liquidity = easier to exit larger sums).

Regardless, this isn't the first time I've come across the sentiment, which at minimum points to a base of mistrust that is not super healthy for the ecosystem. And that's worth being concerned about.

I left the HW discord a long time ago so no idea what the current atmosphere is like there but they ask people to make apology posts that feel pretty grovelly and it makes me cringe when I see them 😭

Ngl it feels like thie:

Ooof, like Bart Simpson writing lines or something...

If that's still the case it really needs to be addressed, IMO.

I'm sorry I landed here one day after the payout period, I'm gonna think on this list today, thank you for sharing

No worries, I’m not too concerned about payout! The most valuable thing here is comments and conversation :)

Let my comment be seeeeen!!

I may have more to express later, but I can mention one thing that comes to mind at the moment, in the *4. Getting Hive listed on crypto exchanges section. I am active on 4 different sovereignty-driven blockchains, Hive of course (which I give most of my focus), Qortal, Deso, and Bastyon, 3 of which have their own internal decentralized exhchanges (Hive, Qortal, and DeSo). One thing that I very much want to see happen is these separate blockchain ecosystems, or potentially Allied Blockchain Nations, to to list each other's tokens in the DEXes of the others. For this to happen, of course, there must be communication, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration between the devs of these social blockchains. This, I believe, would help strengthen each of them, individually and as a whole, and bring more cross-community and cross-blockchain awareness, which would invariably lead to more people coming to Hive. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Onboarding: we have already several tools to choose from, so this is not a priority, same with the exchange listings. Nobody didn´t join Hive (or leave Hive) because of too few listings.
Marketing is the big failure, and the older the project becomes the more marketing is needed, as we lack the bonus of a exciting startup.
The other flaw is the totally centralized hivewatchers. A group of much mure users should do the actual downvotes, consisting of whales, orcas, but also dolphins and minnows.
A new proposal for marketing and anti-abuse are the most important, from the existing one for hivewatchers one could easily pay both. But the majority of the big whales here don´t want any change.
