Thud! I jumped up from the kitchen chair and saw a small feather stuck to the window.
“Oh no!” Another bird has hit the window and is probably dead,”
I looked out the window afraid to see a dead bird laying belly-up on the back deck.
Seeing the little sparrow sitting on the railing was a relief. The bird was definitely stunned as he didn’t move when I took his photo.
I had washed the window the day before and must have done a smash-up job for it to be so clear the sparrow thought he could fly through it.
Sparrows have not been around and I was glad to see one. Birds have been on the decline and the sparrow is one of the fastest disappearing.
” The National Audubon Society declared a "bird emergency" after a study revealed that North America has seen a decline of 2.9 billion birds since the 1970s. This is believed to be a result of a number of environmental factors, though the study didn't specifically look at causes. Habitat degradation, pesticides, and birds flying into windows have all been potential reasons for the premature deaths of our wild birds. As such, Canada's bird population is majorly at risk.” Source.

Interesting! I had no idea this species was declining. We have some weeds in our backyard they seem to flock to every late August/early September that I was going to get rid of, but maybe I should reconsider. Thanks for sharing this.
It makes me feel good to know my little story may Influence others and you want to help the sparrows by leaving the weeds. 😊
Thanks so much @sagesigma!

definitely! What a curiuos bit of info...I need to start paying more attention to the birds near me - thx!
Sparrows are such dinky little birds to have around, so sorry to learn they are becoming endangered by what we do in our gardens.
During our time under very strict lock down the weeds did just grow for almost 8 weeks, actually the garden thrives better leaving them, small butterflies appeared we had not noticed previously.
You must have put a lot of elbow grease into washing those windows for the sparrow to fly straight into it, it happens sometimes depending on light they just don't appear to realize a window is there.
Lovely photography on your little sparrow @redheadpei

I noticed the same here when the grass doesn’t get cut that so many more bees and butterflies are around.
Since my two cats are always on the window ledge, I noticed marks on the glass and cleaned it inside and out the other day. Now I’ve let the blinds halfway down so no other little critter flies into the glass.
Thanks so much Joan for tip and beer.😊
Accidents do happen, I have never had one die from flying into the window pane normally able to revive and fly again. Enjoy your day and change in season, slowly going into delightful colours in your neck of the woods.
Me encantas esas fotos del gorrión, y definitivamente me atrapó la foto con el filtro tipo dibujo con lápices de colores, es hermoso... gracias amiga.
Hola y gracias amigo @latino.romano 😊
Oh! Good! The bird was alright!
Please don’t clean the window so immaculately!! This is a good excuse for me not to clean my windows!! LoL
That's what I said. Not that I need an excuse :))
Haha @kaminchan. It’s not a task I enjoy but someone has to do it. 😊The problem with that window is I can see it when it gets dirty as it is by the kitchen table.
Here it doesn't seem there are less sparrows - there are as many as always, at least for me 😁
I'm glad the little guy survived. Maybe he didn't fly with full speed or didn't crash frontally with his head against the window.
We have glass doors at the entrance of our office building. Whenever the cleaning lady cleans them too good someone runs against them and there have even been some almost broken noses ... and big laughter 😂
Don't clean your windows - it's dangerous for you and for others Jo 😁

I’m happy you are seeing lots of sparrows Johann.😊 I don’t know why but that poor thing that banged into the window is the first one I’ve seen for a long time.
I can see that happening with clean glass doors being sparkling clean and someone being in a hurry.
At my sister’s cottage so many people have walked into the screen on the patio door and that’s not even clear. She’s tired of replacing the screen and has put some magnets on it so people will see it. One person even bend the frame, they slammed into it so hard. It wasn’t a drunken party! 😀
Thanks now I’ve got a good excuse to not clean the windows. 😉
Also appreciate the reblog, tip and other goodies dear Johann. 🤗
Wishing you a wonderful Thorsday. 🌝

Good morning Jo,
there are lots of them around. They are bathing in the sand below the tree before our balcony, and they are noisy 😉
It's always a big laughter when someone runs against the door, although we then feel sorry with the bleeding nose 😂
We have thought of putting stickers on the door, but then we left it as it is.
I can feel with your sister, because if such happens often it's not that funny anymore.
I wish you also a very nice Thor's day, dear Jo 🤗

It's horrible when birds fly into glass windows, they must get quite a shock as they are going so fast (if they aren't killed...)
Lucky that this little sparrow wasn't killed, I'm pretty sure that he was hoping that no one noticed and would spread embarrassing photos on the internet!
It was lucky @bengy the sparrow wasn’t killed. 🐦

You've just given me another excuse not to wash the windows :))
Thanks Ag @agmoore.😊 I happy you like the little bird. It was great he survived the crash into the window.
Yes, I have an excuse now too.😁
