They have a hard outer shell that I guess you could call a 'wax coating' so yeah 'boiling' (it is actually below the boiling point) works. The other method (which is what I use) is to scarify the outer shell by rubbing both sides of the seed along a file. Sandpaper works good also but I like using a file.
