Why not join in the fun? Be kind - eek! Been loving reading people's AMA, and getting replies back! A really nice way to get to know some folk. Oh, and if you're going to ask me what is the shortest post I've ever written, the answer is that I'm pretty, fairly, most definitely sure it's this one!

I am a hydrologist by profession! My favourite river the Trent. What is yours and why?
OHHHH - great question! These questions are fun!!! You know, I had wanted to see the Ganges all my life, and a month or so back I got to sleep right next to it. I put my feet in the water and cried with joy. It really blew me away to see this river - probably as it is culturally significant for so many people, and so spiritually important. I felt a really strong connection to it - honestly, it blew me away. It's so clean up near it's source, though I understand it's pretty dirty further down - fascinating to watch all the offerings float down, from necklaces of chrysantheneum, lost saris, and coconuts to other things as well - sadly, plastic bags too.
Here in Somerset, there's so many waterways it blows me away. Very different from home. I love how interconnected they are - I'd love to live on a narrowboat and go down some canals. We're going to stay on one next week I hope, belongs to a friend.
I remember the Vltava in Prague, actually, as it flows through Czech Republic. Spent a whole summer once just getting stoned and drifting on a tyre for hours, then getting out, walking back up river, and starting again. Watching dragonflies and chatting. Hangover dips in the water.
And I remember the Thames from Richmond, where I was living for a bit. Rivers have such a romanticism to them! Great question, thanks for asking it. Why is the Trent your favourite river?
Wow, lovely description. I visited Rishikesh last year and felt the same for the Ganges. I stepped in next to families bathing and having fun. The river was freezing cold and the energy flows from your feet up to the top of your head. It was Incredible. It was quite clean that far up. Every evening we attended the Ganga aarti and it natural to pay homage to this amazing river :) I would also agree yes, plenty of plastic bags, but that it is a modern sign of the times we must do something about. I saw many throwing all manner of things into the river, as if the plastic bag itself was an offering.
I've done some flood work for the Somerset rivers/levels. I think many are man-made and manged, drained etc. It is incredibly complex. I'd like to visit sometime for a stomp around and fly the drone:)
On the River Trent, that is because it was my 'local' massive river, soa little part of my identity. From where I lived on a large escarpment in Lincolnshire, on a clear day you could see for a hundred miles into the Trent valley and the power stations that lined it. They are closed now, which is good as they were coal powered. My nan also told me a story from the war when a cargo ship was bombed upstream on the river and then for days they had waterborne deliveries of oranges:) amazing when the had nothing but eggs, bread and potatoes! Other peoples stories stick in your head somewhat.
I just published a post (a bit of a rehash from one from Steem last year, which I swear only one person read) about fossil rivers, you might like it if you didn't see it the last time!
I'd love to read it . Have you got the link?
Oh, I swam in Ma Ganga at Rishi! Sooo cold and so holy. Down where the rapids are past Laxman Jhula.
Landscapes are very much our identities.. the coast at home is mine. English rivers have such history, your personal one no less.
Yeah here Fossil Rivers. Rivers are full of history, and our waste/offerings which counts. Oh I know those rapids, I waded in there. The ones that are overlooked by the old Ashram of Maharishi? That was a great place to look around!
This is making me miss India!
Oh this is cool!
I've been loving reading the questions and answers!
H-m-m! what to ask -
I'd like to know something about what makes you tick?
What is your core belief, the one that motivates you, keeps you going through life?
Love, @porters. Act out of love, and all else follows. Quite hard to stick to! But I've always been a loving person, like when I was a kid and used to cling on to visitors leg's haha. Sometimes that's not always been well recieved - my heart, my openness - and it's kinda been the cause of shame too. But the older I get, the more I think everything comes down to one basic thing. Love the earth and every creature on it, and find joy in that. Which means everyone's awesome, everyone you meet, and life is awesome. And everything else is just that shit that dirties up the windows.
Love it! Great philosophy - I think I'll have to incorporate it into my life - although I do pretty good on it just could use a little expanding!
Experience love and joy and heck! just leave that "shit that dirties up the windows."
Thanks for sharing what makes you tick!
What is the first natural medicine everyone should start taking today? Or: what is the one thing most people have a lack of/need for but without most of them them knowing?
Breath! We don't pay enough attention to this powerful force. It has such a capacity to calm or stimulate.
Failing that, look to your personal environment. Local herbs heal.. you don't need superfoods sent from far away.
Everyone is different.. a herb that works for me might be poison for you.
You've probably already answered this in old posts, but it was more than 20 mins ago, so I plead Lyme brain and will ask again:
What's your favorite herb and flower, and vegetable?
Ha, great question!!! How can I decide?
Vegetable: Eggplant
Herb: Basil
Flower: Grevillea
BUT!!!! I can't eat eggplant raw, and there's more special medicinal herbs, and nicer smelling flowers, so:
Vegetable: Fennel
Herb: Withuania (Indian Ginseng)
Flower: Rose
Under different criteria, I'd choose different ones! Thanks for asking - fab question, and impossible to answer!
Which of your posts that has made you the proudest on Hive?? And why?
Oh - you know, that's almost impossible, as I have the worst memory. I really like my poetry posts, though they don't get as much engagement - mainly as it's very, very niche. You like poetry or you don't. I love the crafting of them, and they remind me that I AM creative. Many I've drafted, and reworked with my science focussed husband, which is an utter joy. We have a lot of fun doing it. And I really love my fiction too. I think 'Horses' is my favourite - an Australian gothic that was in response to a competition very early on here. It even creeped me out! And I won, which was super cool. But I don't think they're the ones that others would remember. Sometimes I see my old posts, like the ones @artemisshares crossposted this week, and I'm suprised that I wrote them, coz they're kinda good. I guess I'm not that confident a writer, but HIVE (Ex Steem) has made me feel more confident. Being here for two years now, and going through a LONG stage of writing every day, there's actually quite a few posts i'm proud of, like this one: https://peakd.com/writing/@riverflows/breathing-is-like-the-world-changing-seasons - where I tap into some kind of flow. I've realised how much of my language is connected to nature, and my body. I'm proud of my ability to put aside nervousness and bare my soul a little, because it's been amazing being so positively received back - at first, the validation really helped me, but now it's just like this sense of 'me' that I'm proud of. Does that make sense? Fabulous question.
It made prefect sense 🙏❤️
How is the Natural Medicine Tribe working out for you? Good to see you over here! 😀
It's a beautiful tribe - we're small, but solid, and we learn a lot as we go! I find the subject really fascinating, especially seeing how we get so many people writing about herbal medicines from all over the world! Let alone the whole meditation thing, and all the other aspects of what we might class as 'natural medicine'. I'm pretty proud of the solid foundation we have built and all the people who work hard to make it what it is. I think it's got some heart, though it might not have the riches! Thanks for asking! xx
I plan on checking it out now. I don't know much about herbal medicines so need to look into it. Awesome to hear it is here on Hive!
Yeah, we made the transition pretty smoothly - everyone was happy to movve with us and we picked up as if we'd always been here! It's worth following the community - as long as you are prepared to skim over the shit posts, but that's the same with any community I guess. There's a lot of great content writers and good people there too.
Excellent. I'm looking forward to looking it over! 😀
What's your favourite holiday destination?
Oh, that's a sensitive one, since I was meant to travel this year and ended up being stuck in the UK far from home! We had two amazing weeks in India, but had to cut it short. Hm. I loved Burma a lot when I went there, and would love to go back, particularly to the more unexplored southern beaches! And I really loved Morocco as well - again, we were going to go this year but don't think we can now. I also love driving up to the south coast of NSW in Australia - lots of beautiful beaches to hang out on. I also loved Amed in Bali, spending the days free diving! Great question. Trying not to cry because the holiday I wanted this year has gone down the toilet!
what's your favourite niche othe than natural medicine?
Oh, great question!! I love fiction and poetry, but I'm fussy with it and don't get time to read longer pieces. And it depends what it is - for example, I'm not a fan of romance!!! I also really like the DIY movement here, especially upcycling and repurposing. Homesteading and gardening also fall under that category. I also have a big admiration for a lot of the STEM stuff. HIVE provides interesting subjects for all of us!
What spiritual deity would you like to meet and why? Not trying to get religious per se, but this encompasses all deity's, not just the mainstream ones like Jesus or Mohammed etc.
I am trying to think of what I would do!
Oh, that's interesting! Because I'm really into Kali at the moment, but she's scaring the heck out of me and rubbing salt in old wounds, so I'm not sure I am brave enough to meet her full on. But she'd be the one to wreak havoc with - I imagine we'd be pretty awesome at jumping on cars and setting fire to things together, getting pissed afterwards, fighting with demons and then she'd stroke my head afterwards and make me go through some stuff so I could come out on the other side a little bit more enlightened.
Lakshmi might have some good advice on crypto. I do love the Hindu deities. Jesus and Mohammed - nah. I think I'd like to drink chai with the female deities, actually.
Great question!!!
Pretty cool, I’ve heard of those names but I’m not too familiar with them! I’ll have to look them up. They are of Indian region?
I didn’t think you’d be interested in the mainstream ones but I wanted to mention that I wasn’t interested in those!
Yes, they are Hindu. If you're a yogi, you're bound to encounter them. Haha, no worries, didn't think you were!
Why do you join hive
My husband was playing around with crypto, and he told me about Steemit. It seemed alternative, and fun. Of course, within 2 posts I was utterly hooked - that was a couple of years ago now.
yessss question time!!!
Easy question: beer or wine ;)
Cider, currently!
I know that you´re into natural medicine and would like to know what you think about medical cannabis as such? Did you made any experience with it as a treatment?
I ask because not long ago I used CBD oil to treat chronical backpain and was amazed by the outcome, but can´t find any strong enough here in Australia.
