It was never really a big thing in England, growing up. I think now for many it's an excuse to celebrate something. In the north it helps get you through the long, cold dark nights of winter, I guess. Something to look forward to.

I grew up mostly with Guy Fawkes night and bonfires. And NOT Halloween. It's odd here in Thailand with a small contingent of zealous Americans who don't realize it's not a global festival.
