Thanks, @ph1102 for finding the answer.

Congratulations @improbableliason! for the win

Charles Butler in 1609

1600's were very dodgey times, often things were attribuited to males when it was actually females that made teh discoveries

That is an interesting part of history

Thanks for the congrats :)

Wow! @improbableliason wins again!!! Congrats! :)

Umm entomologist Charles Butler was the first to change "king" bees to "queen" bees. (The Feminine Monarchy,1609)

Oh boy, September ends tonight!!! Hello October!!!

Theer seems to be conjecture as to the real discovery. But who found Ovaries ??

Thanks :) Good Luck

Congratulations @improbableliason

The change was made by a very talented surgeon with a very small scalpel or whatever @pixiepost answers because we have all heard the rumor that she gets her answers from the bees that bring her pixie dust.

LMAOOOO duly noted ;) ha ha

Congrats @improbableliason.
It was first observed by Luis Mendez de Torres in 1586, confirmed by Jan Swammerdam's microscopic dissections and popularized by Charles Butler in his book The Feminine Monarchie, in 1609.

Now thats an answer that I have been waiting to hear :)

The fact that Charles Butler was interested in bees, and lived under a female monarch for most of his life, I think played a major role in his decision to substitute one simple word in his book.

That substitution? He called 'king bees' 'queen bees'...and it stuck.

Do you ask these questions to just get us to read and expand our knowledge?🙂

It is still open for conjecture it seeems

is good see how many people win this :D

Congratulations, @improbableliason!

Who is Charles Butler and why did he get to make the decision?

Because if the times, Patriarchy at its worst

congrats to the winner

Congratulations @improbableliason

But why in the first place they called female as King.

Probably called King because it was a patriarchal society @saachi

Congrats to the winner, great job, keep coming back each day to build this great community.

The queen was known as the king until the late 1660s, when Dutch scientist Jan Swammerdam dissected the hive’s big bee and discovered ovaries.

Another correct answer re the Genedr identification

I concur that it was Dutch scientist Jan Swammerdam dissected the hive’s big bee and discovered ovaries in the 1660's

It indeed was when Ovaries were found, @howcoolisthat

this is amazing, i hope win.
