A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GREEN SEA TURTLE
MAYOTTE
I am currently taking pictures of green sea turtles. A series of short films on various environmental topics for local television in Mayotte. The opportunity for me to quickly present to you the different activities that make up the daily life of these sea turtles.
Green sea turtles are mostly known to be real grazers of the seagrass beds located on the fringing reefs. In Mayotte, many of these herbaria are located near the mangroves, before the first coral reef. They can stay there for several hours pulling pounds from those green shoots.
But having access to the seagrass beds also means that there is enough water to be able to pass, therefore only at high tide. So what do they do when the tide goes down and no longer allows you to reach the plateau. By quite curious attitudes, sea turtles position themselves above certain coral colonies and get cleaned! These areas are called cleanup sites.
These sites are home to small fish, wrasses, whose activity is to deworm turtles or other large fish by biting on their shells or scales. A real job that gives one better health while providing the other with some food. It's called commensalism.
This cleaning session can last about thirty minutes. Then comes the time of rest for our turtle who will go in search of a shelter, a recess at the feet of the corals in order to rest for a few hours. We can then observe it sweeping its hole with its front and rear legs to make a clean place, then to stand there, the head always placed in the direction of the exit, and the eyes being able to close for a real sleep in apnea.
These are lovely photos of green sea turtles. Recently, I watched video from NetGeoWild where a huge shart was attacking one, later killed and left it. I think these creatures are endangered.
Oh. My. God. I went freediving in Bali once and couldn't get enough of the turtles - there's something extraordinary about these grazers of the sea!! I could spend all day following them around. great photos!
Wow, what a beautiful view. You really captured true beauty of nature. Wonderful and magnificent. Loved it. Thanks dear, keep it up 😊👍

These photos are incredible! Wow!
But I'm really here to ask after katharsisdrill. Should I be worried about him?
I don't think you should worry about @katharsisdrill. He is the same as he was several years ago, with ups and downs.
OK thank you.
Wow what a great view under the sea, And the adventurous and excitement feeling under this water is undefinable. Sea turtles are very friendly in nature and there shell is their cover for protection.
Species are many and we should save our environment for future generation.

Impressive photos 🙌🙂♥️
Man, I love turtles!! This post and especially the photos are amazing. My eldest son (8) loves turtles too, I'm going to show him these now.
Do you still dabble in software @vcelier or are you properly retired now?
I am properly retired.
What do you mean by "dabbling in software"?
Hi, as in coding for fun, writing scripts to make life easier etc.... Just I saw on your page, you were a software engineer 👍
Yes, I do that from time to time, but not that often.
Very good. I imagine that something like Hive most be excellent for a retired person to get into. So much to get involved with and learn about and engage with people from all around the world. I know that I really enjoy it, but find it very challenging to find the time for family, my job, my commitments, my past times and then Hive as well..
@vcelier Compliment of the season to you. Happy New Week from here. Have a wonderful, Successful weekk ahead.
I wish I can learn the coding aspect. But it takes alot of time and more importantly I'm a farmer but I love to divert my knowledge and acquire more wisdom @vcelier I followed you sir
Those are some awesome Photos @marc-allaria Looks like Documentary level Pictures.
Wow. I'm so scared of this water or sea tortoise. But in the real sense to me. They look beautiful 😍 but scary. I love three things about the tortoise shell.
Amazing pictures!

Pictures of Green Turtles are really clear and beautiful. I know that baby turtles are constantly swimming enthusiastically to throw themselves into the open ocean. I've also read that female turtles only make their way to the island or beach when they are about to give birth. Thank you very much, very nice sharing.
Ciao mio caro amico,
