Every single human on planet earth feels anger from time to time, it is the way we respond to frustrating situations or difficult times. Anger is actually a strong emotion that we feel when something do not go as planned or when we get wronged by someone. Anger becomes problematic to us when it's displayed in excess, when this happens it affects our daily life and also how we relate with people around us. Anger comes in different range, it can be from very little things annoying us to expressing huge rage. Sometimes it comes in excess and at this point so many persons lack control and it becomes very difficult to keep our emotions in tact, which can lead to us behaving in ways we would not normally behave.
The human body experience some biological and physiological changes whenever we are angry, these biological changes could be in form of increased energy levels, increase in our body temperature, blood pressure is likely going to be be raised, or even increase our muscle tension. Anger is seen differently in everyone and everyone express it in different ways. We tend to understand someone is angry because of the outward display we might noticed, these outward display that can help indicate someone is in a rage could be them raising their voices or talking at the top of their voice, you could even noticed them clenching their fists like they are ready for whatever is going to happen next, some display they are angry by frowning, some experience a rapid heartbeat while some sweat really hard when they are angry, which ever way, one can easily notice their rage through any of the mentioned characteristics or even more.
There are so many complications that comes with anger even though it's completely normal for us to be angry. The fact it's normal, does not mean we should live a life filled with anger, like I did mention it comes with so many complications. It is very harmful to our emotional and even our physical health whenever we are angry and can't get full control of ourselves. Like I mentioned before, when we are angry, our body experience some biological and physiological changes and when we always put our body through these changes all the time by always getting angry, it can lead to us experiencing some medical conditions and we can end up with cases like high blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia and even face depression.
CAUSES OF ANGER
We are trying to look at some of the ways to better manage our anger in other to stay happy but first, we should understand the cause of what's getting us angry. Anger can be caused by many things, but mostly it's usually influenced by either an external or an internal body. When we are emotionally hurt, we can feel anger inside of us. Sometimes people use their anger to replace emotions that they don't have plans to deal with, this could be fear, loneliness or even emotional pain. So many things may trigger anger in us, these things could be rational or irrational. These triggers could be in form of you dealing with the loss of someone you love so dearly, losing your job, failing at a particular task or even going through a breakup. They are very many, there is always something that triggers the anger in us, and the first way to better manage your anger is to first identify those things that always trigger your anger.
HOW DO PEOPLE EXPRESS ANGER
People express their anger differently, but all these different ways can be better noticed in two form; verbally or non-verbally. The Verbal form of expressing anger is when the person who is already in a rage can be seen or noticed talking at the top of their voice. At this point, they have little or no control of themselves anymore, they might even become very insulting and may likely say very hurtful things if they are directing their anger towards someone. On the other hand, the Non-verbal way of expressing anger, the person will not say a thing but you will definitely noticed some physical changes in them. The person might frown or even clench their fist. They might even go as far as lashing out on someone else, sometimes such persons might end up hurting themselves or someone else.
There is something you should understand though, the two ways people can express their anger (verbal and nonverbal) are not mutually exclusive, that is, it is possible for a person to express their anger both verbally and non-verbally. They can be talking at the top of their voices and still experience some physical changes.
HOW TO MANAGE YOUR ANGER IN OTHER TO STAY HAPPY
There are different ways to managing our anger, but finding the right way to cope with our anger is very important. Allowing anger control our lives, affect everything we do, and often times, we make some of the worst decisions ever. Here are some ways you can better manage your anger in other for you to stay happy.
IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF YOUR ANGER
Before you can solve any problem, you must first identify the cause of that problem. Know the root cause of your anger, that's the first step if you really want to free yourself of that anger. You have to understand the cause first in other for you to be able to manage yourself better. Know what get you to that state in the first place, understand why you got to that state and then go ahead to express how you feel in other to free your mind.
PRACTICE MEDITATION
I have come to the understanding that when we meditate, we can better control our emotions. Whenever I'm angry, I just breath. The breathing exercise is the most simple and effective meditation techniques. Sometimes inside my mind I just keep repeating the statement let it go and slowly I will become calm. Take a deep breath when you are faced with a situation that's getting you angry, repeat the process until you feel calm. Have you ever look at yourself in the mirror when you are angry? Well I have, and trust me, the guy in the mirror scares the hell out of me, so imagine if I'm scared of that reflection what will others do? So, just breath, it works everytime for me. Keep breathing until you feel calm again.
WORK IT OUT
Exercising is not just for you to keep your physical health in check, it is also important for your mental health. It's a very good way to channel your emotions, you feel angry or someone get you angry, channel that anger in a productive way by working out. When I am really angry, I work out, sweat the whole negative energy out, afterwards I take my bath and sleep. Free your mind, just work it out.
LET IT OUT
One mistake a lot of persons make is, they always bottle things inside. The more stuffs you keep inside, the more angry you become and the less free you also become. When you don't have your inner freedom, chances of being happy is very difficult. I'm a straight shooter, I don't know how to keep things in my mind, I just tell you that I'm angry and this is why, I don't expect the person to feel sorry immediately, but I only did that because I have bigger problems to resolve why block my thoughts with anger. If you feel expressing your anger makes you feel better then go ahead to let it out, don't hold back. The more you keep holding things inside, there will come a time when you will experience an outburst and when that time comes you will say so many things that have been done to you in the past and trust me, people get scared of persons that keep things in their mind, they don't know what might trigger you and you might just offload your hate for them. Free yourself by letting it all out, free your mind if you want to be happy.
AVOID THINGS THAT WILL TRIGGER YOUR ANGER
If you are like me that little things will trigger you to get angry, then first identify those things that always trigger you and always avoid them. Just don't put yourself in a situation where you can't avoid those things that trigger your anger. If it's someone that constantly annoy you, even after telling them they still annoy you, it's best you start giving that person some space since they are always a trigger. Identify your triggers and always avoid them.
CONCLUSION
Staying happy at all times should be something we all should aim for, because this is very important for our well-being. Learning how to manage your anger is a skill that we all must have and we can have it if we choose to learn how. When trying to manage your anger, understand that this demands time and patience, so don't get worked up when you see yourself getting back with your old habits of you being angry, we are all humans and it's totally normal to be angry, but not to the point where we can no longer control it.
I'm a huge work in progress when it comes to managing my anger, people don't know this, but one of the major reason I teach today is because I really want to learn how to manage my anger. Yes I'm developing myself, I'm good at what I do, but the main reason was to better myself. Kids are the most loving sets of creatures and at the same time the most annoying. But, over the years, my kids (students) have help me become better, things I overlook now I don't see myself doing that some years ago. And since I started managing my anger, I have become even more happy. And there is something about you being happy, others tend to benefit from that happiness also.
<It's okay to express your anger, but not to the point where you can no longer control it, we all have to be in control of all of our actions at all time. Practice how to manage your anger today and see how happy you will become. Have a anger free day today.
