Green papaya is a great meat tenderizer. Yes, does take a bit longer to cook. I make it with lentils, but our tree was uprooted some time ago due to high winds on the terrace where I have my garden. I haven't eaten green papaya in two years I guess. The shops here don't sell them.

My father told me when I was a kid that it was a meat tenderizer. I totally forgot because I don't eat meat. Making it with lentils sound like a good plan. Great tip thanks. I can't imagine how wonderful it would be just to have trees in the yard or property. Isn't it strange that here in Canada we don't have a problem finding them most of the year.

Here the fruit is available through out the year, but not raw papaya.
