Hi dear friends of Hive! I have some Chinese-style steamed buns to share with you all. This recipe has can make use of many different fillings.
I made a bean and cashew filling because I have only these ingredients now. Even steamed buns with no filling is delicious too.
π©βπ³ Steamed Bean And Cashew Buns (Ital) Recipe πͺ
αα·ααΈααααΎαααααΆαααααΌααααααααα½α
- 1/3 cup lentils
- 1/2 cup roasted cashews, or raw is okay too
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste
I do not use salt because roasted cashews are salty already.
Soak beans in water two to three hours. After wash them well and steam or cook them, and set aside until cool. Grind cashews, sugar and beans, then stir them in a pan until dry. After cool I put the stuffing in the freezer for 1 hour because it's easier to form balls when the mixture is cold.
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp yeast
- 1/4 baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp oil
- 1/3 cup warm water, or as needed
- banana leaves or paper for putting buns
Put yeast and sugar in warm water and stir a little and keep 10 minutes. Put flour in a bowl add salt, baking powder and oil, then mix together and knead it well. Then pour yeast water and mix it together.
Then use hands to knead it for 10 minutes or until smooth, then cover it 1 hour. After pour a little flour on cutting board, put dough on and knead it a little. Now them it as small as you want, then take a piece of dough and roll it like a roti.
Then put a ball of filling on the dough and close it, and put it on banana leaf.
After the water is boiling, turn down the stove, add buns and cover them for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes increase the flames a bit and steam for 15 minutes.
Have a great weekend everybody and stay safe π.

I am drooling....the greed in me is growing fast. By the looks of the ingredients list and the results, this will most def get a spot on my favoriteslist of snacks made by you :)
I understand my friend. I am glad you like my foods.
Hmm ..strange we make fillings with lentils, coconut and brown sugar and the dough is made with rice flower and steamed. When we make Chinese style buns we use chicken or meat as filling. There is so much similarity in these recipes.
I'll give this a try.
Yes, that's right. I always change the filling by ingredients I have at home. Thanks a lot for your kind wordsπ
