After an exhausting photo walk through the alleys of Raffles Place, I decided to go for a nice, satisfying lunch at Adelphi Mall, which was a 10-minute walk from my location. The walk itself wasn’t too tiring, but because of the midday sun, it wasn’t the best time to be strolling through the streets. The warm weather made it feel even more exhausting, and as I kept walking, my hunger grew.
My plan was to dine at Makanan Bollywood, a restaurant that serves traditional Indian food. If you’ve ever tried a biryani dish at an Indian restaurant, you’ll know that the portions are usually very generous compared to other types of restaurants. That thought made me even more excited for lunch, as I had been building up my appetite during my photo walk.
However, when I arrived at Adelphi Mall, I realized that all the shops and restaurants were closed—it was the second day of the Lunar New Year. I was very disappointed, but I had no choice but to move on and look for other open restaurants.
Luckily, Funan Mall was open. While half of the shops were closed, there were still some restaurants operating. I felt relieved to find that I still had dining options that day. At that moment, my choices included fast-food chains, Japanese restaurants, a Mexican restaurant, and an Italian restaurant.
I decided to go for Italian food this time. It had been a long time since I last had it, so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to choose something I don’t often eat.
The name of the restaurant is Romana (Pizza & Pasta)!
The restaurant's design stands out among the other places due to its unique Italian color theme and ambiance. It captures the essence of Italy through simple elements, such as the wood, green, and red color scheme of the logo. The font on the signage also adds to the traditional feel of an Italian restaurant.
The interior feels bright and modern, even though the space is not very large. The ventilation works well, as it didn’t feel stuffy, and I couldn’t smell whatever was being prepared in the kitchen.
They have a wide variety of options on their menu, but their specialties are pizza and pasta. Both look great, but I was particularly interested in having one of their pasta dishes that day.
Then, my cheapskate side kicked in as soon as I saw the set meal they offered for only SGD 12.90. That was almost half the price compared to ordering the dish, dessert, and drink separately, so I thought it was a great deal. So, I went for it!
The set meal allowed me to choose one main dish from the available selections, so I went with the Spaghetti Bolognese. For dessert, I initially had my eye on the Japanese cheesecake, but since it wasn’t available, I opted for the Japanese homemade pudding instead. As for the drink, I felt that hot tea would pair well with the pudding, so I chose that too!
My hot tea was served first! So, while waiting for my spaghetti, I played around with my phone’s camera, taking some dramatic shots of the tea. I liked the sophisticated look of the teacup, so I wanted to highlight it in the photo.
They served the spaghetti next, but I asked the staff to bring out the pudding as well so I could take a nice photo of the entire spread on my table. I felt the photo would look more complete with all the items included.
As I was taking the shots, I started feeling even hungrier because I could smell the steam rising from the spaghetti. This was a clear sign that it was freshly cooked—something Italian restaurants like this take pride in.
As expected, the Spaghetti Bolognese was delicious—I loved it! The pasta was al dente, which is a hallmark of an authentic Italian-style spaghetti dish. This place felt legit, especially since I even saw Italian tourists dining there, seemingly enjoying their food as well.
The sauce was tomato-based, with a tangy flavor that suited my preference. It had a well-balanced taste with a slight sweetness, indicating that they used perfectly ripe tomatoes. Italians don’t mess around when it comes to their sauce—even here in Singapore. I really enjoyed the dish, and I will definitely come back to this place just for it alone!
Time for my dessert!
I was fully satisfied with the main dish, so I was curious to see if the pudding would live up to the same standard. Of course, ending a meal with a nice dessert like this would only enhance my overall dining experience.
My expectation for the pudding was that it should be smooth, silky, creamy, and not too sweet—and it delivered! I really liked it. The caramel was just right, which is exactly what I would expect from a Japanese-style dessert.
The hot tea was the perfect way to finish off the meal. I stayed a little longer, sitting and slowly sipping my tea while writing my review of the food and the place. It helped that the seats were so comfortable. The cushions were like memory foam, making them perfect for sitting for an extended period.
Summary:
Name of Restaurant: Romana (Pizza & Pasta)
Location: Funan Mall, Singapore
Dish Ordered: Spaghetti Bolognese + Japanese Pudding + Hot Tea
Price Range: SGD 5.90 to SGD 30.00
Ambiance: Modern Italian Style
Overall, my experience at this restaurant was truly enjoyable, from the delicious Spaghetti Bolognese to the perfect pudding and tea. The combination of great food, comfortable seating, and authentic Italian flavors made it a memorable dining experience. I will definitely be returning to indulge in their fantastic dishes again soon!
Dropped by say hello. Happy lunar new year and hope all things go to plan this year. :)
Thanks mate 🙏, I wish for us to have a great year in this space.
And of course, I wish you and your family a happy and healthy 2025 🥂 🥳!
Reading 'Raffles Place' immediately brings to mind the figure of 'Sir Stamford Raffles'. In my opinion, he was the most popular figure in the palace in Aceh in the early 19th century. He was one of the signatories of the 'Treaty Between the British and Acehnese Governments'. The transcript of this agreement is contained in the book 'Wanderings in New South Wales, Batavia, Pedir Coast, Singapore, and China; being the journal of a naturalist in those countries, during 1832, 1833, and 1834' by George Bennett.
He certainly has great services to Aceh, so the Sultan of Aceh, Sri Sultan Alauddin Jauhar Alam Syah, gave an award in the form of a medal to Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. I see this award is immortalized in the logo of the Raffles Institution. (www.ri.edu.sg).
I hope one day I can visit Singapora and walk around the alleys of Raffles Place.
Thank you for sharing this info @vannour! I find it interesting that Sir Raffles also venture specifically to Aceh. He did a lot of good things here in Singapore which is why his figurines and paintings are everywhere here in the city.
He's also revered in the Singapore History Gallery that I visited a few days ago. His contributions in building the modern Singapore is being praised here.
I'm glad that he also did well in Aceh. Cheers to that!
Hopefully, we can continue to learn from history and appreciate figures like him.
I agree. I'll share my visit to the museum in my coming posts soon.
Have a great weekend ahead!
I'm looking forward to hearing about your visit to the museum.
Thanks! It would be my pleasure to :)

Good day! @bleujay ☺️
Thanks for the feedback about the photography, had to sacrifice a few minutes just to get them 😂
And yeah, I'm happy to find such a place that I'll keep going to whenever I crave Italian food.
Now I'm hungry 🤣 and sad that I'll have to wait till dinner to eat some pasta ahahah
It's very nice that you enjoy it that way :) not everyone likes pasta al dente, even among italians!
😁 looks like my post tempted you already.
Regarding the pasta being al dente, I guess I was influenced by watching Joe Bastianich in Master Chief (US) shows and I like the texture of the pasta when it's cooked that way 😋.
It surely is the best way to enjoy a dish of pasta :) and it is also easier to digest!
Even with the noodle dishes that I have regularly, I prefer the ones that weren't overly cooked.
And yeah, it's easier to digest 👍
You have visited a very nice place that satisfies ones cravings.
Indeed 😊. I'll returning soon to try the other food in their menu 😁
Woow that's interesting!
Cheers!
!PIZZA
Spaghetti, pudding, and tea? That’s a perfect meal! 😋
That's how I felt about it too 😂. Be back soon for the !PIZZA + Cheesecake + tea.
that is very nice restaurant, i feel hungry now
Hehe apologies for tempting you too much with the food 😁
I'm Italian and that menu is pretty much not real Italian but adapted to foreign tastes 🤣
BTW that's tagliatelle, spaghetti are round and thin
Oh no 😱
It goes to show that we know very little about real Italian cuisine. In that case, I now prefer Tagliatelle than spaghetti.
Thanks for the info 👍
Actually I prefer tagliatelle as well 😅 expecially with duck sauce, that's north typical ☺️
😁👍
I love Italian food, everything looks very good and the place is extremely cozy.
I do too, pizza and pasta are my comfort food.
How about you? Which one is or are your faves?
For me pizzas are the best, they are my favorites.
Absolutely! 😊👍
Yes, that spaghetti looks really provocative and the pudding is always a good choice.
Haha, I would do what Mr Bean did (in my mind) just because I deeply enjoy the spaghetti :D
Wow, all the food looks amazing, and I have no doubt it was delicious. But the dessert looks a lot like one I know how to make called quesillo. It's not like pudding; it's much tastier than pudding. It's very typical in Venezuela to have it at every birthday, but whenever I can, I make it for my daughters because they like it a lot.
I must say that I suddenly crave for another plate of pudding because the photo of those desserts on your table.
Your Quesillo looks thicker which I'm imagining would be more tasty? By the way, is it made of cheese? Because of the name "queso"?
It is called quesillo because it looks like a cheesecake, but it has no cheese at all, it only contains condensed milk, liquid milk, powdered milk, vanilla extract, eggs, that is placed in a pot with another pot full of water and put it in the oven, before a caramel is made to give it that appearance, it is very delicious, but as I said it is called quesillo because of its appearance.
!BBH
Oh that's very interesting and it actually looks like a cheese wheel, now I get it 😲
I just realized this recipe is also called Flan in English.
I look at the menus, some are really Italian others like duck arrabbiata, noooo way 😂😂😂😂😂 by the way happy you enjoyed Italian cuisine if you ever will come to my region I will give you a true taste of the cuisine of Tuscany ❤️
I think the restaurant has fusion style in their menu because they also have Japanese desserts which I also ordered 😁
Wow, I will be remembering your offer if ever I travel to Tuscany! I have zero knowledge about Tuscany and it's cuisine which makes me curious about the flavor of the dishes in your region. Cheers!
The restaurant is environmental is very clean and inviting, their meal also look so delicious
You're right about that, I felt that way too 😁
Great meal brings satisfaction to the soul
Love that line. I will remember that everytime I eat. Thanks 😊
While the place looked really atas. The food looks super affordable. Thanks for sharing!
The ala carte is a bit on the $$ side which is probably they offer this set menu.
Definitely coming back to try another set 😁
Here in the Philippines, we call that dessert ”leche flan” and it is one of the best desserts we are used to preparing especially when there are special occasions like birthdays, fiesta or Christmas season. Their spaghetti looked so delicious and your tea got beautiful shots. What camera are you using?🙃
I think this dessert have different names in different countries, I got another comment from a Hiver in Venezuela saying that they call it Quesillo because it looks like a cheese.
Did some search and it's also called Flan but the sound of Leche Flan is more enticing 😁
Good to know that this is a celebratory dessert. Personally, having this made me happy.
Thanks for noticing the photos. I'm using Oppo Reno 13 👍
It looks delicious and not so expensive
Indeed and I felt satisfied after the meal 😊
!PIZZA
May I ask what is your favorite Italian food?
I am in paradise, Italian food is one of the delicacies of the culinary world. I absolutely love pasta.
You're right about that. I know there's a wide variety of food in Italian cuisine but the only ones I'm familiar with are pizza and pasta and that's good enough for me to think it's one of the best cuisines in the world 😁
!PIZZA
I love pizza too but my partner doesn't love it too much, I always accompany it with beer, I'm one of those who can't eat pizza without beer, and pasta with a good wine please.
This is amazing
I'm glad you find it nice. Thanks for dropping by :)
Excellent.
Thanks! Have a great day ahead.
