G-dog cooks pasta

No, my cooking didn't poison anyone so no jokes about it ok? I mean, I'm not the greatest cook around and, as I was saying today in a comment thread to @dswigle, my cooking tends towards the basic but it's not toxic - I think.

My food tastes lean towards the simple. It's not that I don't like fancy expensive food, I do, it's just that I feel more comfortable with a more homey version. It's the company that makes food better in my opinion as there's nothing quite like breaking bread with valued friends and family around. So, when I cook I keep it basic.

Anyway, I was telling Denise that I was going to cook a pasta at some point, using spinach I grew myself, and decided that tonight would be as good a night to do so than any. Here's how it turned out. It might not look so great team, but it was tasty!

I kept things simple and the ingredients to a minimum and basically what you see in the finished product below is a brown onion, red capsicum (red pepper) and mushrooms sautéed in chilli-infused olive oil for a little zing. When that was about half cooked I added the browned off chicken boobs and finished off the cooking process. While this was happening I had the spaghetti boiling away in the water and when almost cooked I returned my attention to the topping to finish it.

This is when I threw in my home-grown spinach and wilted it down without the burner on, just in the heat of the chicken. Oh, I threw in peas also, just frozen ones I'd boiled a little in water. By then the spaghetti was al dente, cooked a state that would give a little bite when eaten; I drained and returned it to the pot and added a sun dried tomato and garlic stir-through pesto thing. (From a jar y'all, I didn't make it.)

Once that was stirred through I simply the chicken mix and put some in the bowl you see pictured above. I served it with garlic sour dough bread and topped it with fresh parmesan cheese. Sorry, the garlic bread wasn't ready when I took the photo so...No garlic bread photo; you'll have to take my word for it being good!

The taste was pretty good overall and, if I'm completely honest I'll tell you I had two bowls of pasta, but I'm going to lie and say I only had one serve. I've got a little left over for lunch tomorrow though so that's cool, I get to revisit its tastiness all over again.

I'm not sure if I did it right and someone probably really wants to pick on me but it worked ok and tasted good so I'm not sure what else is required. I'm pretty happy with the meal and maybe I'll cook it again sometime. What was super cool though was to include ingredients I'd grown. It's pretty satisfying.

So that's it y'all...Tell below in the comments what you've eaten today or are planning for dinner!

Some days simple is just what you need and I have to admit that this looks good. I'd wager my daughter would frown at it, but I miss simple pasta dishes like this. I think they allow for each of the flavours to have their little spotlight, then you can mix a couple together for some more variety as you go.

Simple suits me just fine and this meal was super simple, ready in under 20 minutes and tasty.

Nice one G-dog. This has made me hungry. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it's always pretty special adding ingredients that you grew yourself.

My food never looks fancy and appetizing like this in real life or in photos, but hey it's keeps Lory and I alive so it's probably also non toxic hahaha

Have a good one.

PS we can add peas to pretty much any food in this house - Lory's a bit of an addict :) She loves to eat them raw off the plants in the veggie patch too, when they're super sweet and crispy.

It was a pretty basic pasta but super enjoyable, hence the two serves. He come on, I'm a growing boy! 😆

Peas...Yeah, I put peas on everything. OK, not really. I had them in the freezer though and in my head it sounded like a great idea. It was. Seems Lory and I have something in common huh? Oh yes, and peas right out of the pod? Legit.

If you enjoy what you cook, what more do you need.

Speaking of garlic stuff, at the store yesterday I saw a stack of 4lb buckets of shelf-stable garlic spread. Mostly margarine with some garlic but there was a lot of it. I chose not to get any.

Garlic is a dichotomy. So good, so, so good. But very pongy later.

I think it sounds delicious! I think I would enjoy some for breakfast! I like dinner for breakfast some days. I know, a little weird, but, it works!

It looks appetizing and really fresh, it can't get any better than coming from your own garden, yes? I am happy that you used so much of what you grew! Most people I know use jarred pesto, a few don't, to me, it is a personal choice. I grew up where my mom did everything the hard way, I come somewhere in between. I like it fresh, but, I don't mind cheating if I can get the same nutrition. For general purposes, I need to know how to do it, but, I don't need to do it.

Al dente is perfection in my opinion. Soggy noodles just don't do it. Besides, then it is no longer Italian. Soggy, gooey sounds a little English, not Italian. I think you did great for the first year out. I am still in shock over the garden, Mary, Mary.

Thanks for breaking bread in front of with us!

Aww thanks Swigs, it came out rather well indeed. So much flavour and with a little help from that quality parmesan...Mmm good!

I'm looking forward to having the rest for lunch tomorrow, but will have to hike off the calories you know! 😁

Yes. It's the little things that really count - and the hiking? If the back is better, sure. If not, I know a female surgeon that is dying looking forward to seeing you again. ;)

Lol...Yeah that bloody woman needs to pay for her Mercedes somehow. I'm hoping not to be the patient who has to make the next payment!

I think you probably already paid for the next check-up on it. My advice is to get ahead of the curveball and offer to pay for the maintenance contract. :)

Lol...Or maybe she can fix me up right the first time and I don't have to be broken any more like Humpty Dumpty.

HaHa! Well, I have never thought of you as Humpty Dumpty before, but, now that you say it... silly guy. Thinking of you today and hoping that things are working their way towards "being okay" as you can be.

Oh yami this looks great! Never tried pasta with spinach. Sounds good.
So. Now as I saw this got hungry ;-) thanks a lot ;-)

You'll have to deal with it. Krapfen photos made me hungry a few days ago so I'm returning the favour. :)

Lol 😃 that's right
Bon apetito to you

As time goes on... My menu is also leaning towards lean.

I wonder if toxic is used as a good word... like the bomb.

Lol, well I guess it depends on the ingredients...And if all your dinner guests survive. If not then toxic works well.

Maybe I'll stick with !PIZZA

I think it's not toxic because you seemed delighted by sharing it. Never mind, you just caught me by your words that made me drool myself by reading.

It's okay, to tell the truth, I guess because if someone loves to eat why stop ourselves if it's good for our health.

I completely agree with everything you say! ✅😂

it worked ok and tasted good so I'm not sure what else is required

Nothing else, its all about taste, isn't it ? I always like the homey version, because its not very rich but tastier than the ones we buy. And adding own grown spinach will definitely add more feelings to the taste.

It was pretty good. Maybe other people would do it differently but tonight this is what happened in my kitchen right or wrong. 😏

Sounds delicious and looks delicious and if the cook had two helpings, definitely delicious ;D

It was pretty good indeed. Let's just say the cook had two helpings that were half-size each which actually makes up only one total serving. 😂

That looks pretty tasty. I would try that.

The ingredients all sounded like a good combination, although I'm not sure I would have thought it needed peas...but they did look colorful in it for the photo.

I have never had a big garden of my own, but I have grown a few edible items here and there and I understand the fun of eating something you grew yourself.

I got up less than an hour ago, so I haven't started eating for the day yet and I also haven't thought about what I will eat. Hmmmm wonder what it will be....

I had peas so they went in. I'm not a cook or chef and don't have anyone to impress so don't tend to give a toss about what should or shouldn't go into things. It tasted good and thats what mattered to me.

Now I have no more peas and so no more peas will go into things, unless I get more peas, and then they will.

I understand about having no one to impress but yourself when you prepare food for yourself. I do the same and the peas thing was only that I would not have thought to include them in that type of dish, not that they were a bad thing. If you please yourself, that's all that counts.

Your last sentence about it made me laugh !

So...Peas can be funny! 😂

I knew it!

Thanks @steemflow ✅😉

Delicious and healthy :)

It was pretty good indeed, no doubt about it. No added salt either so a bit healthier. I figured the pesto stir-through would have enough salt and it did. ☺️

Wow, it looks amazing and delicious, I want a bowl of it now (^_^)

There's left overs...I'm not sure if you'll make it in time to enjoy though!

That is the sad part, I'll never make in on time (^_^)

Lol...This is true.

You grow your own spinach? Now this is really cool, I love spinach, it goes so well with garlic. It looks good G., I really think that you did very well. I also throw in some already made sauce from the jar in my pasta, it is sometimes more efficient and fast as I tend to turn grumpy and impacient when I am hungry

I grow all sorts of things actually. Been doing a series of posts about it over the last few weeks or more. I'm enjoing the process of growing my own fresh produce. 😉

That looks so good.

And hey at least you only have the vague threat of potential poisoning with your cooking, I may cause the kitchen to spontaneously combust XD

Lol...Now that I'd like to see. But...Not really of course. Could be quite problematic.

Chicken Boobs...

I knew, if you saw this, you'd know what I mean.

Looks bloody magic man!!! And chill infused oil, booft! Love it. Nice little kick and flavour.

chicken boobs... :OD

The G-dog is a sucker for boobs brah, even chicken ones. 😆

HAhaha, funnily enough, we might have something in common there!

Yeah, I had a sense that would be the case.
